Jerry Dowd has been promoted to vice president of labor relations at Crowley Maritime and will be responsible for Crowley's labor strategy. Dowd joined Oakland-based Crowley in 1984 as director of personnel and labor relations, most recently serving as director of human resources and labor relations for Crowley Marine Services' West Coast operating groups. Dowd will be based in Seattle.
EvergreenBank named Brenda J. McKelvie as relationship manager for its new Federal Way office. McKelvie has over 25 years of banking experience, most recently with U.S. Bancorp where she served as vice president and team leader for small business banking. Evergreen's Federal Way office will offer personal banking, internet banking access, and a center for financial news.Evergreen currently operates three offices in Seattle, Lynnwood and Bellevue. The Federal way office will open in mid-September at 1300 S. 320th St.
Carrie Zerone has joined Hamilton/Saunderson, a Seattle-based integrated marketing firm, as an account coordinator. Zerone will focus on retail marketing and major event planning for the Factoria Mall. Hamilton/Saunderson provides advertising, branding, event production, public relations and strategic planning.
The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada honored the city of Woodinville for its 2003 budget document with a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award. Independent reviewers evaluate budgets from government and institutional entities nationwide. Winners are evaluated on how well the budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device. Woodinville was among 28 participants in Washington to receive the award. The city's finance director is Jim Katica.
Todd Herman has been hired as "streaming evangelist" in MSNBC.com's sales and business development department. He will be responsible for generating revenue from streaming products for MSNBC.com. Herman founded and served as CEO of theDial, which is now Loudeye Radio, and worked as a radio talk show host. MSNBC.com works with partners such as NBC News, MSNBC cable and CNBC to provide free video news coverage including hourly video news updates and business day updates.

Jamie Curtismith, former director of the Northwest Women's Business Center, has opened a consulting business named Curtismith Consulting. The business specializes in social entrepreneurial development, small business development assistance and clients facing bankruptcy that require turnaround assistance. Curtismith was recently awarded a Department of Labor contract to develop a financial literacy program and will continue teaching small business management and entrepreneurship course at Everett Community College. The Mayor's conference room in the new Seattle City Hall has been named the Norman B. Rice Conference Room. The name honors Norm Rice, who served for 19 years as an city councilmember and mayor of Seattle.
Venture Law Group, a Menlo Park, Calif.-based technology and early-stage company law firm, has merged with Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe. Venture Law Group's 10 lawyers in its Kirkland office will combine with Heller Ehrman's 103 lawyers in Seattle. The company will operate as Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe and will use the Venture Law Group name for its global emerging-growth company practice. Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe has 12 offices nationwide and abroad including Seattle, Portland and Anchorage. Venture Law Group has offices in Kirkland; Menlo Park, Calif; and Reston, Va.
Jack A. Cowan has been reappointed to another term as executive director of the French American Chamber of Commerce of the Pacific Northwest. Cowan was confirmed for a second five-year term by the French government as its official representative to Washington. Cowan joined the French American Chamber of Commerce in 1994 as executive director.
Svetlana Balykova, Dana Culbertson, Aaron Jacobs and Matt Thorne of Clark Nuber have passed examination to become Certified Public Accountants. Balykova is a tax associate at the Bellevue firm. Culbertson, Jacobs and Thorne are audit associates.
