Grove Worldwide

Grove Worldwide has been certified to the ISO 9001:2000 standard from the British Standards Institute. The latest standard, using both U.S. and European input, covers management controls through the entire system to customer service and relations. Grove is also certified with the previous ISO 9001:1994 standard, which focused on manufacturing. Grove has been part of the Manitowoc Co. since 2002.

Association of Equipment Manufacturers

Megan Carpentier has been named manager of government affairs for the Association of Equipment Manufacturers. Previously, Carpentier worked for the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association in the area of state and federal affairs. She will be based at the AEM’s Washington, D.C. office.

Construction Education Scholarship

Three levels of scholarship are offered this year by ConstructMyFuture.com to assist students at post secondary vocational programs with a construction focus or employed individuals seeking new skills. The Web site http://www.ConstructMyFuture.com features the scholarship information and other job information for the construction industry. The Web site is a joint effort of the Association of Equipment Manufacturers, the AED foundation and the Associated General Contractors of America.

John Deere

The 2003 edition of John Deere’s performance handbook has been released as a book and CD-ROM. The 447-page handbook lists equipment specifications for current John Deere construction equipment. The Windows-based CD has additional interactive elements and includes the John Deere Attachment and Custom Engineering Guide. The handbook and CD are available at any John Deere dealer.

Volvo Trucks

Peter Karlsten was named president of Volvo Trucks North America. He will replace Michel Mgigou, who will return to Volvo’s European offices. Karlsten is currently president of Volvo do Brazil and will be succeeded in that position by Tommy Svensson. Svensson has been president of Volvo Trucks Germany for three years, and was formerly the managing director of the company’s British operations. Svensson will be succeeded in Germany by Goeran Simonsson, currently head of Volvo Trucks in Switzerland and Austria. The new assignments will take place on Oct. 1.

Lewis County

Mary Kay Nelson has been named executive director of the Lewis County Convention & Visitors Bureau. Nelson was tourism specialist at the Centralia-Chehalis Chamber of Commerce for the past six years. She is a member of the marketing committee of the Washington State Tourism Advisory Council and is vice president of the Southwest Washington Tourism Coalition. The Lewis County Convention & Visitor Bureau is located at the Wilson Hotel building in downtown Centralia. The organization is planning a new Web site.

Transportation Commission

Jennifer Ziegler has been appointed commission administrator for the Washington State Department of Transportation Commission. Ziegler was most recently with the Senate Commerce and Trade Committee, and previously served as senior council for the Senate Transportation Committee. The seven-member Department of Transportation Commission functions as the board of directors for the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Seattle University

Jennifer Deger has joined the Seattle University Alumni Board of Governors. Deger is a senior manager in the state and local tax group at Clark Nuber. The board advises the university and its alumni relations office, and participates in student recruitment and career mentoring.

Fear of Flying Clinic

The nonprofit Fear of Flying Clinic will hold a four-day clinic in October at Sea-Tac Airport. The Tukwila group has operated for 23 years as a volunteer organization to educate and assist individuals who have a fear of flying. Arnerich Massena & Associates

Arnerich Massena & Associates, an investment management and education consulting firm, hired Brent Petty as a senior associate in sales and marketing. Petty's most recent position was at ICMA Retirement Corp. as its Northwest institutional sales manager. In addition, the firm promoted Scott A. Faris to managing director of retirement consulting. Arnerich Massena is based in Portland.
