Sedgwick Rd.

Sean Hardwick has joined Sedgwick Rd. as vice president and group account director for Washington Mutual. Hardwick comes to the agency from TBWA/Chiat/Day in London, where he was account director for the European Apple Computer account. Hardwick also led the launch of Apple’s “Think Different” campaign in the U.S. Sedgwick Rd., previously McCann-Erickson, is a Seattle full-service advertising agency.

Crowley Maritime

Crowley Maritime promoted Todd Busch to general manager of its Southern California ship assist and escort services operations. Busch, previously based in Seattle, will relocate to San Pedro, Calif. Crowley operates six harbor tugs at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, and two harbor tugs in the port of San Diego. Busch has been with Oakland-based Crowley for 16 years.

Bullivant Houser Bailey

Bullivant Houser Bailey has named Toni Y. Davis a member of its insurance coverage practice group in Seattle. Davis is experienced in the areas of legal and real estate malpractice, personal injury, school law and general tort claims. Bullivant Houser Bailey is a 180-attorney law firm with locations in Seattle, Vancouver, Portland, Sacramento, San Francisco, Irvine, Calif., and Las Vegas.

Schwartz Brothers Restaurants

Schwartz Brothers Restaurants appointed Julie Hawkinson chef of its newly re-named Spazzo Italian Grill. Hawkinson, formerly of Brasa, Stars and Zefiro, will lead development of Spazzo’s new, all-Italian menu as the restaurant transitions to upscale Italian dining in November. Spazzo Italian Grill is located at 10655 N.E. Fourth in Bellevue.

King County Sexual Assault Resource Center

The King County Sexual Assault Resource Center has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the Muckleshoot Indian Tribal Council Charity Fund. The center provides in-depth training and education on assault prevention. The Muckleshoot Charity Fund is funded by proceeds from the Muckleshoot Casino in Auburn. 

Tully’s Coffee

Tully’s Coffee has expanded its distribution to 1,200 Safeway stores in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, Oregon and Washington. The move increases Tully's presence at Safeway locations by 300 percent. Tully’s Coffee is also currently available at Albertsons, Andronico’s, Associated Grocers, Fred Meyer, Haggen, Larry’s Markets, QFC, Rosauers Supermarkets, Top Food & Drugs, and Whole Foods Markets.

2003 Friends of Housing honorees

The Washington State Housing Finance Commission gave out eight "Friends of Housing" honors this year. The new "friends" are: retired Federal Home Loan Bank of Seattle community investment officer Judy Dailey, former Washington Community Reinvestment Association investment officer Susan Duran, Tonkin Hoyne Lokan Architects of Seattle, Spokane Homeownership Resource Center Board President Kay Cram, Diocese of Yakima Housing Services Director Mario Villanueva, the Opportunities Industrialization Center of Yakima Valley, state Rep. Hans Dunshee (D-Snohomish), and state Sen. Joseph Zarelli (R-Ridgefield). Dailey worked to stop bank red-lining on Indian reservations and helped set up bank programs to reinvest in low-income areas. Duran originated $160 million in affordable apartment loans in 11 years at the reinvestment association. Those loans backed construction of 6,500 apartments. Tonkin Hoyne Lokan Architects has long worked with nonprofits, housing authorities and developers to build affordable apartment projects.

Sonata Capital Group

C. James Judson joined Seattle-based Sonata Capital Group as managing director. Judson was a senior partner at the law firm of Davis Wright Tremaine in Seattle and a member of Craig McCaw's Eagle River Investments LLC venture capital fund in Kirkland. At Eagle River, Judson led the legal team in the acquisition of Nextel Communications, the creation of XO Communications and was the founding president of Nextel International. He has served as tax council to many of the state's largest banks, as well as general council for numerous local and national corporations and partnerships. His law degree is from Stanford. Other Sonata managing directors include: Sonata President David Hill; Sonata Chief Investment Officer Tim Cummins; former Seafirst Bank CEO Luke Helms; Davis Wright Tremaine Chairman Mark Hutcheson; and former Seafirst Executive Vice President Earl Shulman.

John L. Scott

Barbara McMahon became a sales associate in John L. Scott Real Estate's Everett office, where she joins husband Glenn Godden. McMahon came from Prudential MacPherson’s, where she made the top 7 percent of agents nationwide. She has 24 years of experience in sales and marketing management and 13 years in single- and multi-family sales. Chelsey Samonte also joined her husband in selling homes at a John L. Scott office, this one in Laurelhurst. Samonte's husband, Henry Samonte, is a top producer at that office. Her father, Mike Petryszak, is a 20-year John L. Scott veteran who holds the broker's licence for the Kirkland office.

Nastech Pharmaceutical

Bothell's Nastech Pharmaceutical promoted Jade R. Brown to vice president of marketing and business development. Brown was previously senior director of marketing and business development. Nastech, a developer of nasal drug delivery, also develops products targeted for the treatment of male and female sexual dysfunction, pain management, osteoporosis, cancer and hepatic illnesses, growth deficiency and multiple sclerosis.

Anthony’s Restaurants

Anthony’s Restaurants has been honored with a Restaurant Neighbor Award from the National Restaurant Association. The award honors restaurants involved in community service. Anthony’s has sponsored the Anthony’s Oyster Olympics for the past 14 years to raise public awareness of the importance of clean water for the Puget Soundkeeper Alliance, and is associated with the Moyer Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded by Seattle Mariners pitcher Jamie Moyer and his wife, Karen.

Channel 9 Store

The Channel 9 Store will open a seasonal retail location at Seattle's Pacific Place from Oct. 1 through mid-January. The store is operated by Channel 9 Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of KCTS. The store plans an expanded selection of toys, games and gifts this season. Tom Niemi is the director of retail operations for Channel 9 Stores.

Angel Flight West

Dale Terwedo, president of Edmond's Terwedo Financial Services, joined Angel Flight West, an organization that arranges free air transportation for people with non-emergency needs. Terwedo was named an active command pilot for the Washington Wing of Angel Flight West. Angel Flight missions come from hospital social workers, physicians' offices and social service agencies. Currently, the Washington Wing consists of 207 pilots.

Community Capital Development

The Northwest Washington Women's Business Center at Community Capital Development is launching a new Web site on Sept. 24 at www.seattleccd.com/resources/locator/index.html. The site will allow small businesses to find free and reduced cost services in Snohomish, Skagit and Whatcom counties. The service is funded in part by grants from Verizon, Key Bank, Washington Mutual, Columbia Bank and Northwest International Bank.
