City University

City University, a private, not-for-profit university with locations in Washington, Canada and Europe, appointed Dr. Steven Stargardter ex officio member of the Bellevue Entrepreneur Center. BEC is a partnership of educational institutions, government agencies and local businesses that offers business assistance to ethnic minority and women-owned businesses in Bellevue. Stargardter has been president of City University since 1999.

Western Washington University

John D. Warner and Kevin M. Raymond were reappointed to the Western Washington University board of trustees. Warner, vice chair, is the retired senior vice president and chief administrative officer of Boeing Co. Raymond, board secretary, is government relations manager with the Seattle Monorail Project.

Seattle's Union Gospel Mission

Seattle's Union Gospel Mission, a faith-based not-for-profit organization, received a grant of $11,000 from the Employees Community Fund of Boeing Puget Sound. The grant will support construction and remodeling costs at one of the Mission's drug and rehabilitation facilities.

Gene Juarez Salons & Spas

Gene Juarez Salons & Spas named Stacy Bollen director of spa operations in the Seattle office. Bollen is succeeded by Alexandra Muhlestein as general manager of Gene Juarez Salon & Spa in downtown Seattle. Effie Reed was named general manager of the Tacoma Gene Juarez Salon & Spa. Gene Juarez has locations in Seattle, Bellevue, Lynnwood, Redmond and Tacoma.

Williams Kastner & Gibbs

Williams Kastner & Gibbs, a Seattle-based law firm, named Claire Hur, Brian Lewallen, Megan Pedersen and Rosemary Reed associates. Hur focuses on business and commercial transactions, Lewallen's practice emphasizes environmental regulatory compliance and environmental litigation, Pedersen focuses on civil litigation and Reed concentrates on general business matters and commercial litigation.

Candela Architectural Lighting Consultants recently added Ben Kuritz as a lighting designer. Before joining Candela, Kuritz completed lighting design for library, commercial, education and museum projects as an intern with George Saxton Associates in Washington, D.C. He is a member of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America and Designers Lighting Forum, and a recent graduate of University of Colorado's architectural engineering program. Candela services range from commercial, educational and medical campuses to restaurants, civic centers, hotels and entertainment venues.

KPFF Consulting Engineers

Monica Moravec has been named associate at KPFF Consulting Engineers. Moravec is currently project manager for the Sound Transit Pine Street stub tunnel, which is under design. She has 24 years of experience. She has a background in sanitary engineering design, stormwater conveyance and treatment for WSDOT and Sound Transit, and development of projects from planning through construction. Moravec was project manager for the waterfront streetcar, and also worked on the South 277th Street overcrossing project in Auburn, which won the APWA 2003 Transportation Project of the Year over $10 million.

GGLO

Steve Fischer has joined GGLO's integrated design practice. He has 15 years of design experience on projects such as housing, hospitality, retail and commercial. Fischer is working on University Village and other retail projects, and will soon join design teams for two Hope VI housing redevelopment projects, Greenbridge and Rainier Vista.

Martin Boivin has joined the Seattle office of Shannon & Wilson, Inc. as vice president. He recently retired from the Coast Guard's Facilities Design and Construction Center (Pacific) after 41 years of federal service. Boivin has been recognized by the National Society of Professional Engineers and the Society of American Military Engineers for his engineering accomplishments. Boivin holds BS and MS degrees in civil engineering from the University of Washington, and an MBA from Seattle University. At Shannon & Wilson Boivin will be focused on marketing and business development of the firm's environmental services.

Tom Wilcox recently joined Berger/ABAM Engineers' Portland office as a project manager. Wilcox has 14 years of civil engineering and construction management experience on both public and private sector projects in water resources, transportation, communications and land development. He has served as a design engineer, project manager and construction representative for sanitary sewer, storm drain and water system improvement projects.
