Reed Schifferman has been appointed to the board of regents for Gonzaga University in Spokane. He is a personal injury plaintiff's attorney at Stritmatter Kessler Whelan Withey Coluccio in Seattle.
The Western Washington Fair Association elected Jerry Dean Larson of Puyallup to the board of directors, filling the position held by board member Frank Franich until his recent death. Larson, 41, is president of Larson Glass Co., Puyallup, a commercial glass subcontractor.
Bret Carlstad is joining Pierce County as facilities management director. The appointment by County Executive John W. Ladenburg is subject to County Council confirmation. Carlstad, who has been serving as director of planning, property, risk, safety, custodial services and emergency services at the Edmonds School District, fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Dan Cagle.
Lee H. Rousso has joined the Seattle law firm of Rohde & Van Kampen. His practice emphasizes complex civil litigation related to intellectual property and securities law. He also has experience litigating construction disputes.

The Tukwila real estate firm of McGrady & Associates has affiliated with ERA Franchise Systems and now will do business as ERA McGrady & Associates. Offices remain at 6840 Fort Dent Way, Suite 100, in Tukwila. Todd McGrady, broker/president, said the firm will hire more than 100 real estate agents this year.
Shawn Rush of Seattle's Group Mackenzie was recently appointed to serve as a director on the 2006 CREW Network (Commercial Real Estate Women Network) board of directors. CREW Network is a national organization of more than 6,500 commercial real estate professionals. Beth Lambert-Saul, vice president at Archon Group in Irving, Texas, has been elected CREW president for 2006. Marianne Ajemian of Boston is president-elect.
Redmond-based Monterra Holdings LLC, a real estate investment company focused on multi-family and commercial office investments, has acquired the 18-unit Olympic Suites apartment complex and an adjoining parcel of land for a total of 1.23 acres in Renton through a wholly-owned subsidiary. Monterra plans to explore partnerships to develop the adjoining parcel of land. Monterra focuses on development and acquisition in Washington and Arizona.
Grubb & Ellis has added Tom John as an associate specializing in tenant representation. John has worked in international policy research at the National Bureau of Asian Research, a research institution based in Seattle. He is a member of the Commercial Brokers Association and holds a Washington real estate license.
Crowley Maritime Corp. of Oakland, Calif., announced the promotion of Art Mead to senior vice president and general counsel. Dan Warner has been named senior vice president and treasurer. Both men live in Jacksonville, Fla. The marine transportation and logistics services has operations in the Northwest.
The Spokane Area Economic Development Council hired William (Bill) Stewart to lead business expansion efforts in the Interstate 5 corridor. Stewart was a business development manager with the Washington State Office of Community Trade and Economic Development in Seattle. The EDC is funded by more than 300 private-sector partners including Spokane County, and nearby cities.
Seattle-based PointSure Insurance Services hired Craig Pankow as executive vice president. Pankow will have nationwide responsibility for marketing, business development, distribution, sales and new product development. He was regional marketing officer for a global insurance brokerage. His experience includes workers' comp insurance in maritime and construction. PointSure Insurance Services is a wholesale insurance brokerage.
