Heathman Hotel Kirkland

The Heathman Hotel in Kirkland hired Sheila Murphy as director of human resources, and Kelly Smith and Sandra Cook as sales managers. Murphy has worked for Hyatt Hotels and the Edgewater Hotel. Smith was on the opening team of the Westin Bellevue Hotel. Cook has 11 years of experience. The hotel will open this July.

Seattle Coffee Works

Seattle Coffee Works has opened at 111 Pike St. near Pike Place Market. The cafe combines a museum of Seattle coffee and a tasting center for locally roasted coffees. It has brews from Caffe D'Arte, Caffe Umbria and Vashon Coffee Co. The signature drink is a three shots of espresso served on a silver platter.

Cornish College of the Arts

Cornish College of the Arts hired David A. Ulrich as the chair of the Art Department. Ulrich's photography and writing has been featured in the Smithsonian Institution and at the Rhode Island School of Design. He was with the Pacific New Media Initiative at the University of Hawaii.

Vulcan

Vulcan added two retailers in its 2200 complex in South Lake Union at Westlake Avenue and Denny Way. Tutta Bella will open its first pizzeria and wine bar in the fall. It is owned by Joe Fugere and Matthew Kellogg. Gift boutique Clover House will open its first store this summer. It is owned by Tonia Feinstein and Josh Feinstein.

WSU

Washington State University named Michael J. Tate, who has served as vice president for equity and diversity of WSU since 2004, vice president of student affairs. Tate came to WSU from Michigan State University.

Willows Lodge

Willows Lodge hired Janene Varden as director of sales and marketing, and Jeffrey Dorgan as director of wine and restaurant manager of Barking Frog restaurant and Fireside Cellars. Varden was director of sales at Hotel Monaco in Seattle. Dorgan was the co-owner and wine director at Smash Wine Bar and Bistro in Seattle. Willows Lodge is managed by MTM Luxury Lodgings.

Cornish College of the Arts

Cornish College of the Arts hired Jenifer K. Ward as the new associate provost. Ward is the former chair of modern languages, literatures and cultures at Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter, Minn.

Made In Washington

Seattle-based Made In Washington hired Troy Openshaw as director of stores for the company. Openshaw worked for Target Corp. in many different positions. Made in Washington has five stores throughout Puget Sound.

Owen Media

Owen Media, a high technology public relations agency with offices in Seattle and Portland, hired Tony DeVarco as a vice president and account director. DeVarco is a former senior marketing executive at Symantec Corp. and Silicon Graphics.
