The Utility Contractors of Washington awarded three $2,500 scholarships to local college students advancing their education in the construction industry. The winners include Ryan A. Lukjanowicz and Tin D.T. Nguyen at the University of Washington and Shana L. Bradley at Renton Technical College. Each student had to provide a history of his or her academic achievements, share career goals and write an essay relating to an existing local construction problem.
Jim Kneaper is retiring from the West Coast Lumber Inspection Bureau in Portland at the end of the month. Kneaper has been with the bureau for 28 years, serving the last 15 years as manager of operations. During his career, he made many contributions to the National Grading Rule Committee and the American Lumber Standard Committee.
The Seattle office of Vcfo, a financial and human resources services provider, hired Robert Gundersen as controller associate. Gundersen was the controller for Demand Media. Vcfo is based in Austin, Texas.
Garvey Schubert Barer lawyer Teresa R. Byers, an associate in the Seattle office, joined the board of the Northwest Women's Law Center for a three-year term. She has served as a volunteer and committee member since 2005. The center works to improve women's social, economic and legal status.
Lake Sammamish Bank said the FDIC and Washington Department of Financial Institutions have officially accepted its application to form a community commercial bank based in Issaquah. Upon approval, the bank says it will be the only locally owned, locally managed bank serving the Sammamish, Redmond and Issaquah communities.
Anvil Media, a search engine marketing agency based in Portland, made some promotions. Hallie Janssen is vice president, Leisa Hall is senior account executive and Paul Biggs is senior account executive.
Venture Bank opened a 53,000-square-foot administrative building and financial center in DuPont. The new offices will oversee operations, which include 18 financial centers. It is located at 1494 Wilmington Drive.
