Puget Sound Blood Center hired Barbara Konkle in the Research Division as a full member. Konkle is a hematologist who worked with the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia as a professor of medicine and of pathology and laboratory medicine. She also served as director of the Pennsylvania Comprehensive Hemophilia and Thrombosis Program of the University of Pennsylvania Health System beginning in 1999.
Purcell Systems, an electronics equipment company, hired Lyle Jordan as president, chief executive officer and chairman of the Purcell Systems International AB board of directors. Purcell also appointed Ron Nichoalds as vice president of sales for North America, succeeding Barry Kantner, who was named vice president of new strategic account development. Nichoalds has worked with Powerwave Technologies and Commscope. Rajiv Dabir, director of product management, will transition to vice president of market development in the near future.
The U.S. Small Business Administration appointed Calvin Goings as regional administrator for Region X, which covers Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Alaska. Goings will oversee SBA's programs and services in the region. He is senior advisor to the president at the Washington Credit Union League and had previously been a Pierce County Fire Commissioner, a member of the Pierce County Council and a Washington state senator.
Rick Hermanson of Hermanson Co. was installed as president of the Western Washington Chapter of the Sheet Metal & Air Conditioning Contractor's National Association. Hermanson is serving for two years. He succeeded Duane Nugent of Scott & From Co., who remains on the board as chapter councilor. Also elected to the board for 2010-11 were: Doug Happe of Emerald Aire, vice president; Jim Reynolds of PSF Mechanical, secretary/treasurer; and Peter Fluetsch of Sunset Air, board member emeritus. Trustees include: Brian Fluetschof Sunset Air; Dave Gough of MacDonald-Miller Facility Solutions; Helga Rebitzer of Olympia Sheet Metal; and Eric van der Veen of Holaday-Parks.

A seminar on “Real Estate Mortgage Market Litigation” will be offered Feb. 11 at the Renaissance Seattle Hotel. The Seminar Group said troubles in the mortgage market will mean a lot of litigation in the future, with investors suing lenders, and borrowers suing lenders, brokers and title companies. The Bremerton Housing Authority will move its offices from Westpark to the Wheaton Business Park in east Bremerton at 4040 Wheaton Way in April of 2010. This will consolidate functions now in different locations. BHA's offices have been in Westpark since 1941. The old central administrative building at 110 Russell Road is slated for demolition in 2010. BHA's computer lab will move to a permanent location in 2012 when the next phase of construction is completed at Bay Vista. The lab will be located in The Summit, an 83-unit apartment building that will break ground next spring.
Noah Klika of McQuaid Commercial announced the sale of a 14-unit apartment building on Capitol Hill for $1.6 million. The property was sold by local owners whose family had owned it for decades. The buyer is a local investor. Klika said the GRM was 10.5 and the CAP rate was 6.08. The units average about 450 square feet so the price per net rentable foot was about $250. The buyer secured new fixed-rate debt in the amount of $650,000 (paying $950,000 cash down) from US Bank. Klika said the buyer and seller completed the transaction as LLC entities and prefer to not disclose their names.
Representatives from the United Way of King County and the Coalition for Charitable Choice presented Matt Matson, a director at the law firm Peterson Sullivan, with the Outstanding Employee Campaign Award. The award recognized Peterson Sullivan's efforts during the 2008 campaign. Peterson Sullivan employees raised over $9,000 for Puget Sound nonprofits. Of that total, $6,000 was designated to the United Way of King County, representing nearly a 43 percent increase over the previous year's giving.
Bellingham-based Sterling Life Insurance hired Ronald Bendes as chief marketing officer. Bendes was recently vice president, sales at Conseco Insurance Group where he worked for 21 years. Sterling serves the needs of Medicare beneficiaries.
AdReady, a technology company that works with online display advertising, announced President Karl Siebrecht will be assuming the additional duties of CEO. AdReady's founder, Aaron Finn, has been named chairman of the board and chief strategy officer.
The Critical Junctures Institute, a collaboration of Western Washington University and St. Joseph Hospital/PeaceHealth, hired Sheila Brillson as director of operations. Brillson worked for the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services as the administrator of the Bellingham Community Services Office.
