SERA Architects hired Dena Cook as director of the healthcare studio. Cook has 17 years of experience designing and managing projects for healthcare and lab/research facilities. She is a medical planner and project manager with experience in master planning, programming, design, documents, construction administration, and LEAN design. Previously, she was an associate partner at ZGF Architects, leading facility planning and design for institutions such as Legacy Health and the Army Corps of Engineers. SERA provides architecture, urban design and planning, interior design, and sustainability resources.

Metrix Engineers hired Melinda Herrin as an associate. Herrin, a mechanical engineer, has supported the design and construction of K-12 facilities for the past seven years, including projects in the Bellevue, Seattle and Everett school districts. She also has BIM experience. Metrix is a mechanical engineering consulting firm in Renton.
Meng Analysis hired Bonnie Lyon as marketing manager. Lyon has more than 20 years of marketing experience for architectural and engineering firms. Meng provides cost and quality performance services, including value analysis, constructability reviews, commissioning, facility condition analysis, and cost estimating.
Sovereign Consulting hired Tyler Chatriand as an environmental engineer in Seattle. He has eight-plus years of engineering experience in mining, remediation, and water resources. He has overseen field operations, and will support work in mining and chemical manufacturing, particularly in the Northwest. Sovereign provides environmental assessment, investigation, design, and construction services.
Seattle law firm Williams Kastner hired Katherine Steele to its Seattle office. Steele was partner at Stafford Frey Cooper and practices civil litigation and product liability. Williams Kastner is a full-service law firm with offices throughout Washington and Oregon.
The Seattle Convention and Visitors Bureau hired Marco Bloemendaal as senior vice president of convention sales and services. Bloemendaal served as director of convention sales at Experience Columbus in Ohio. Prior to that, Bloemendaal was senior national sales executive with the Orlando/Orange County Convention & Visitors Bureau. The Seattle Convention and Visitors Bureau is a private nonprofit marketing organization.
Seattle-based Qualis Health hired Julie Sylvester as president for quality and safety initiatives. Sylvester has twenty years of healthcare leadership experience and was administrative director of analytics and finance and director of contracting for the Heart and Cancer Insitutes at Virginia Mason Medical Center. Qualis Health is a nonprofit organization committed to improving healthcare quality and value.





Seattle-based McKinstry appointed three new vice presidents and hired two employees into leadership positions. Ron Johnson was named vice president of Facility Services; Mike Locke was named vice president of Energy; and Scott Thomson was named vice president of business development, construction. Jamie Pedersen was hired as vice president general counsel and Heidi de Laubenfels was hired as director of communications and external relations. Johnson is expanding McKinstry's smart building and data center management services across the country. He holds a bachelor's degree in nuclear engineering physics from West Point. Locke has been with the company for 12 years and oversees operating units. He holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Washington, is a registered professional engineer and certified energy manager. Thomson has more than 30 years of construction experience. He is handling business development across the Pacific Northwest. He holds bachelor's degrees in mechanical engineering from Seattle University and agronomy from Washington State University, and is a registered professional engineer. Pedersen comes from K&L Gates, where he served as primary outside counsel to McKinstry for more than 12 years. He holds juris doctorate and bachelor's degrees from Yale. De Laubenfels comes from The Seattle Times, where she served most recently as deputy managing editor for strategy and product development. She holds an MBA from Seattle University and a bachelor's degree in journalism from Western Washington University.
Jennifer Creighton joined OAC as a senior project manager in the Seattle office. Creighton previously was a general contractor and energy services performance contractor and consultant. She holds bachelor's degrees in construction management and political science and society and justice from the UW. She will be graduating in June with an executive MBA degree from Seattle University.
The Construction Industry Training Council of Washington dedicated its updated electrical lab to Herman “Thorny” Thorstensen, who died earlier this year. Thorstensen pioneered the school's electrical training programs and was an instructor in the field from 1962 until he retired in 2003. CITC provides state-approved apprenticeship and craft training in the carpentry, electrical, HVAC, heavy-equipment, painting, plumbing, and sheet metal trades.
The Pacific Northwest Chapter of the Construction Management Association of America earlier this month held its annual project awards and scholarships dinner. Project Achievement awards were given to DKA/Heery International for the Nathan Hale High School modernization project, and to Anchor QEA LLC for its Percival Landing rehabilitation project. Jessica Fabro from the University of Washington was awarded a $2,500 Jerry Page Laford Memorial Scholarship. Also, Donald Davis, executive project director of North Link at Sound Transit, won the Distinguished Owner award.
