Abbott Construction hired Bill Luby as superintendent and Marc Parsons as project engineer; and Roger Capestany-Gonzalez as project manager and Sean Doull as senior project engineer in the Special Projects Group. Luby has 30 years of industry experience in a full range of structure types and site development. Parsons is providing on-site project support, and has site development experience. Capestany-Gonzalez has more than 15 years of experience in renovation and bio-tech projects, and is a LEED Accredited Professional. Doull focuses on health-care renovations and remodels, and recently relocated from Abbott's Los Angeles office.

Canyon Creek Cabinet Co. hired Doug McIalwain to head its Spokane store/showroom. McIalwain has more than 30 years of experience in building product sales, marketing, purchasing and production. Canyon Creek makes cabinets out of its Monroe facility and ships them weekly to the Spokane branch.

Seattle law firm Stoel Rives hired Bart Reed to its Seattle office as of counsel in the real estate and construction group. Reed was partner and shareholder at Hendrick Phillips Salzman & Flatt in Atlanta. Stoel Rives is a full-service law firm with 400 attorneys and 11 offices in seven states.

University of Oregon

The Oregon State Board of Higher Education hired Michael Gottfredson as president of the University of Oregon to begin Aug. 1. Gottfredson was a professor of criminology, law and society, and worked as senior administrator at the University of California, Irvine for 12 years.

Oregon Public Utility Commission

Gov. John Kitzhaber appointed Susan Ackerman chair of the Oregon Public Utility Commission. The three-member commission regulates customer rates and services for investor-owned electric, natural gas and telephone utilities. Ackerman is joined by commissioners John Savage and Stephen Bloom.

PRR, Inc

UW Department of Communications announced Rita Brogan, president and chief executive officer of PRR, Inc. as the 2012 Distinguished Alumna. Brogan purchased PRR, Inc. in 1989 and expanded it into a national practice with corporate offices in Seattle and Washington, D.C. Prior to joining PRR, Brogan was superintendent of Public Transportation Development at Seattle Metro and served as chief land use advisor to King county executive Randy Revelle. PRR, Inc. is a communications and marketing agency advancing the environment, community and human health. Brogan delivered the keynote address at the UW Graduation Ceremony.

Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason

Jack Nagan, JD, executive director of Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason and vice president for Research at Virginia Mason Medical Center has announced his retirement effective June, 30, 2012. Nagan's career spans 40 years of leadership positions in biomedical research institutes and medical centers. Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason is an international leader in immune system and autoimmune disease research.
