He has a background in geotechnical and structural engineering and more than 20 years of experience on transportation, waterfront, energy, site development, wastewater and landslide projects, including 15 years in this region. Golder is a global ground engineering and environmental consulting firm, with an office in Redmond.

Rice Fergus Miller promoted Jeremy Southerland and Jennifer Frost to principal, Matt King to senior associate, and Reuben Rios to associate. Southerland is a designer and project manager who focuses on health care and senior living projects. He also sits on the Bremerton design review board. Frost is an interior designer with a focus on hospitality, senior housing and health care. King is an architect and project manager who focuses on health care services. He has spent 20 years working as a builder, designer and project manager. Rios is a technical designer focusing on senior living projects. Bremerton-based Rice Fergus Miller provides architecture, interior design and planning.

Sparling hired Denny Le as an electrical project designer in its Lynnwood headquarters. Le recently graduated with a bachelor's in electrical engineering from Eastern Washington University. He previously was an electronics technician. He is working on Stadium Place in Seattle and two office buildings in Eastern Washington. Sparling is an electrical engineering and technology design firm.

Murray, Smith & Associates hired Wally Hickerson as a senior consultant in the Tri-Cities. He has 40 years of experience as a consultant in the Pacific Northwest, including managing projects for a public agencies, such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The Northwest consulting engineering firm provides infrastructure planning, design and construction management.

HDJ Design Group hired Regan Schaller as a survey technician in the Vancouver headquarters. He has more than 11 years of survey experience and is a licensed land surveyor in training. He has a background in project management and survey experience for topographic, construction, as-built and boundary mapping projects. HDJ provides engineering, planning, landscape architecture and survey services.

Cary Kopczynski & Co.

Bellevue-based Cary Kopczynski & Co. structural engineering firm hired Al Leaverenz as an associate and BIM/CAD manager, Elaine Peng as senior design engineer, Gregg Vernon as senior CAD designer and Allison Tran as administrative assistant. Leaverenz has more than 30 years of experience and returns to CKC after running his own CAD/BIM company. He manages CKC's drafting/production department. Peng has 13 years of experience. She is working on 815 Pine, a 40-story apartment tower in downtown Seattle, and Ameristar, a $500 million gaming resort in Louisiana. Vernon has 23 years of experience in structural drafting, including six years with BIM and Revit. He is working on the Avalon University District project and The Vermont, a 30-story apartment project in Los Angeles. Tran has five years of experience as a special education teacher and a title specialist at a law firm. CKC designs urban buildings and parking structures in the United States and elsewhere.

Seattle-based law firm Foster Pepper added real estate lawyers Scott Osborne as of counsel and John Santa Lucia as a member. Osborne has experience in high-profile real estate projects. Santa Lucia practiced at Duane Morris in Chicago. Foster Pepper is a 120-lawyer firm with an office in Spokane.

Moss Adams

Seattle-based public accounting firm Moss Adams named Chris Schmidt as chairman and chief executive officer, and Dick Fohn as president and chief operating officer. Schmidt has served as president and COO of Moss Adams since 2004 and was managing partner of the Orange County office from 1997 to 2004. Fohn has served as director of tax since 2011 and prior to that was managing partner of the Bellingham office. Both appointments begin in the first half of 2013.

AAA Washington

Bellevue's AAA Washington hired Andrew Cheng as an insurance agent in Seattle. Cheng specializes in personal lines insurance including auto, home and life. AAA Washington provides roadside assistance, discounts, maps and trip planning.
