After a 41-year absence in Portland, USO Northwest is opening a new center July 1 and named Christine Vu as manager. She was named USO Northwest's 2013 Volunteer of the Year for Oregon. The center is on the mezzanine level of Portland International Airport. It will be open from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week.
Darrell E. Bryan, president and CEO of Clipper Navigation in Seattle, was appointed by U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker to a two-year term on the Travel and Tourism Advisory Board, which advises Commerce on the industry, including how to streamline the visa and entry process, boost tourism at national parks, improve data collection and help promote the U.S. as a travel destination.
Issaquah-based Red Arrow Logistics named Garrett Bradham vice president of global markets. He has experience in inventory management, process improvement, sourcing and project management in manufacturing, retail, travel and hospitality, and was a global sourcing manager for InterContinental Hotels Group. Red Arrow has more than 3,500 contracted carriers in the U.S., and air and ocean services in 185 countries.
KBS Realty Advisors of Newport Beach, Calif., brought in two new tenants at Ridgewood Corporate Square in Bellevue. Nuclear energy technology company TerraPower signed a lease for 22,965 square feet. Scott Davis of CBRE represented KBS and Pete Hollomon of CBRE represented TerraPower. Union Community Partners, a San Jose-based real estate company, signed a 7,000-square-foot lease. Davis represented KBS and David Miller of CBRE represented Union Community Partners. Ridgewood Corporate Square has 240,518 square feet and now is 98 percent leased. KBS recently paid $186.36 million for the Plaza Buildings, two office towers in downtown Bellevue.
Seattle-based Security Properties said it bought a 192-unit apartment building in Las Vegas called Desert Shadows for $23 million. This was the second purchase through Security Properties Multifamily Fund II. Desert Shadows was built in 2007 as condos and is on West Charleston Boulevard, about five miles from the Las Vegas strip. Security Properties' in-house property management company Madrona Ridge Residential will manage the building. Security Properties plans a $1.1 million renovation. Security Properties has acquired or developed nearly 69,000 units in 483 properties in more than 40 states.
Tim O'Brien, founding partner at the apartment brokerage firm Hagerman Frick O'Brien, has started a new company called Urban Asset Advisors in Portland. It will develop new apartments and redevelop existing buildings into creative office space. O'Brien said the new company will emphasize managing and improving assets, rather than brokering sales. O'Brien teamed up with Cody Hagerman and Greg Frick 15 years ago to start HFO, which focuses on apartments in Oregon and Washington.

The Greenbusch Group promoted Adam Jenkins and Rami Kaur to partner. Jenkins will be chief operating officer. He will work on client relations, business development, project scheduling, forecasting and office technology. Kaur will be chief financial officer. She will oversee accounting and financial reporting, and lead the human resources department. Greenbusch provides acoustical and vibration consulting, mechanical engineering, audio/video technology consulting, vertical transportation design and commissioning services.



SCJ Alliance hired Tyrell Bradley, Patrick Holm and Josh Brannin as project engineers. Bradley has six years of experience in the transportation and civil engineering field, most recently with Skillings Connolly. Holm has more than six years of experience in project management, civil engineering and construction administration. He previously worked at PacLand. Brannin has eight years of civil engineering experience, with an emphasis on stormwater, transportation and design/build projects. He previously worked at PacLand. SCJ provides transportation planning and design, civil engineering, and land use/environmental planning.



Sparling hired Tara Yost, Gaye Jones and Giona Muniz as administrative staff in its Lynnwood office. Yost has five years of experience. As studio coordinator, she provides support to studio principals and works on major project administration. Jones and Muniz work in reception and administrative support. Sparling is an electrical, technology, audiovisual, acoustical and lighting design firm, with offices also in Portland and San Diego.

BergerABAM hired Nelson Holmberg in the Vancouver office as a senior public involvement project manager. Holmberg has more than 20 years of experience in public relations and strategic communications, and nearly 30 years of experience working in and around the media. He has focused on communications and community outreach programs and crisis communications. Most recently, he was executive director at the Port of Woodland.



HDJ Design Group hired Brenda Michel as a marketing/administrative assistant and Justin Koeberle as a survey party chief in its Vancouver headquarters. In Walla Walla, it hired Mark Wendover as a survey party chief. Michel has 20 years of experience in engineering design and will help market to clients in the Northwest. Koeberle has more than 10 years of survey experience in Oregon, Washington and Hawaii. Wendover has more than eight years of land survey experience, including establishing GPS and conventional survey control networks. HDJ is an engineering, planning, land survey and landscape architecture firm. It also has an office in the Tri-Cities.
Salim Shariff, chief investment officer of Federal Way Asset Management, said Michael J. Phillips has joined the company as chairman and CEO. Phillips spent 25 years with Russell Investments, serving as chairman from 2002 to 2008 and CEO from 1993 to 2003. He started in the London office in 1981, and became president in 1990. Federal Way Asset Management started in 2012 and manages approximately $5 billion in assets.
Wells Fargo Private Bank named Allison Bren Ferris head of Special Needs Trust Services, one of nine lines of services offered by Wells Fargo Private Bank. The goal is to maximizing eligibility for public financial and medical benefits, meet cash flow needs and enhance clients' quality of life. Ferris has worked in the department as vice president and senior trust and fiduciary specialist.
Kelly Kraus has joined PMI as vice president of Stanley. Kraus was with REI as director of private brands for all categories including bikes, tents, packs, outerwear and accessories. She also worked at Werner Paddles, Cascade Designs and MSR. Seattle-based PMI manufactures, markets and designs food and beverage gear, including Stanley brand products.
