Western Washington University

Gov. Jay Inslee appointed business executive Chase Franklin to Western Washington University's board of trustees. His term begins June 2 and ends in 2019. Franklin lives in Seattle and has a degree from WWU in mathematics and economics. He has been an entrepreneur, executive and innovator for 25 years, and now is a startup advisor and investor. He has worked at Boone Consultants, Daptiv Inc., Amdocs, Qpass and Microsoft.

Pacific Power Products

Ridgefield-based Pacific Power Products has changed its name to Pacific Power Group to reflect expanded product lines and services. Mark Dawkins is CEO. Pacific now offers sales and service for golf and turf equipment, as well as commercial trucks. It continues to offer power generation products, new and remanufactured engines, and marine power services, with 17 facilities in Washington, Oregon, Alaska, and Hawaii.

GLY Construction

Bedell

GLY Construction added mechanical specialist Erik Bedell to its engineering staff. Bedell was a design-build preconstruction manager at Murphy Co., a large mechanical contractor in Denver. At GLY, he is working on the Allen Institute for Brain Science building. Bedell is a licensed engineer.

Howard S. Wright

Wakeling

Allan Wakeling of Howard S. Wright was appointed to Seattle's Mayoral Construction Codes Advisory Board, which helps the city with proposed rules and amendments. Wakeling is serving a three-year term as the only general contractor on the 13-member board. He has worked for 33 years at Howard S. Wright, a Balfour Beatty company.

Redfin

Redfin real estate brokerage said Nela Richardson, Ph.D., will become its first chief economist. Richardson was a senior economist with Bloomberg Government, and has also worked in the mortgage industry, capital markets and financial policy. Redfin CEO Glenn Kelman said she can analyze real-time data on Redfin customers and also track changes in “home-buyer psyche,” wages and other econommic forces. Richardson will be based in Washington, D.C.

Sealaska Corp.

The Juneau-based regional Native corporation Sealaska Corp. appointed Anthony Mallott as president and CEO, starting June 28. Mallott is the son of Byron Mallott, a former Sealaska president and CEO who is on the corporation's board. Anthony Mallott joined Sealaska in 2006 and has been treasurer and chief investment officer. Mallott is replacing Chris McNeil Jr., who is retiring.

Association of School Administrators

The Washington Association of School Administrators hired Helene Paroff as assistant executive director for professional development. Paroff replaces Mack Armstrong. Paroff worked in the NorthEast Washington Educational Service District 101 for over 18 years.

Red Lion Hotels

Quinn

Spokane-based Red Lion Hotels named Brian Quinn senior vice president and chief franchise officer. Quinn will oversee franchise development as the company expands across the United States. He was executive vice president of development at Driftwood Hospitality Management and vice president of upscale development for InterContinental Hotels Group, overseeing growth of the Crowne Plaza and Hotel Indigo brands, and also worked for Hilton Hotels. Red Lion has 54 hotels systemwide.

SBA Star Performer

Rich Shockley was named the 2013 Washington State Small Business Development Center Star Performer by the Small Business Administration. With more than 20 centers across the state, the SBDC provides free one-to-one advising, training and market research to small business owners. Shockley joined SBDC in 2008 and is one of two SBDC advisors at Highline Community College in Des Moines.

Cox new CEO at EMB Management

EMB Management, which provides services to homeowner associations and developers, hired Ed Cox as chief executive officer. Cox recently worked on developing housing at Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas. EMB Management was founded in 1991 and is based in Bellevue. It is owned by Dallas-based Associa, which says it is North America's largest homeowner association management firm, with 8,000 employees and more than 150 offices in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

Kilroy adds two board members

Gary Stevenson and Peter Stoneberg joined Los Angeles-based Kilroy Realty Corp.'s board of directors. Stevenson is president and managing director of MLS Business Ventures, the business division of Major League Soccer. Stoneberg is managing partner of Velocity Ventures, a merchant banking firm he founded 14 years ago. Kilroy owns more than 13.3 million square feet of office space in Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego. In March Kilroy paid $106.1 million — a record $754 per square foot — for the Institute for Systems Biology building at 401 Terry Ave. N. in South Lake Union.

Meet Chinese investors June 4-5

World Trade Center Tacoma will hold the International Matchmaking Conference, an event to connect Chinese investors with local companies, June 4 and 5 at Hotel Murano in Tacoma. The focus is on real estate, investment, wine and food. World Trade Center Tacoma is part of New York-based World Trade Centers Association, a nonprofit global trade association that connects business leaders around the world.
