In the Seattle office, The Miller Hull Partnership hired Eugene Lau, Ka-Chung Kwok and Maria Do as architects; Sean Waldron and Wojtek Szczerba as an intern architects; and Tetsuo Takemoto as a project designer. Lau was with SHKS Architects and Mahlum Architects, where he worked on projects including Nathan Hale High School. Lau is working on buildings near the Seattle Waterfront Overlook Walk. Kwok was an architect at Suehiro Architecture, where he worked on airport planning and design. He also worked at NBBJ on corporate projects. He is project architect on the master plan for a resort village in China.

Do has a background in architecture and landscape design for K-12 schools, Seattle parks and transit facilities. She worked at Bassetti Architects, SHED Architecture and Design, EDGE, llc, and Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen Architects. She is on the Bothell City Hall team. Waldron worked at NBBJ on health care projects and was with Oh Planning + Design in Portland. His projects include expansion of Pike Place Market. Szczerba has experience on residential, educational and commercial projects at Rohleder Borges Architecture, Mahlum Architects, E. Cobb Architects, Chadbourne+Doss and Lead Pencil Studio. He is working on the Pike Place Market waterfront entrance. Takemoto has done master planning, urban design, and architectural design at Machado and Silvetti Associates in Boston. He is working on PSU Millar Library and Mercer Island Library. Miller Hull is an architecture and planning firm, with an office also in San Diego.

In the Seattle office, DCI Engineers hired Thorin Ostling as a structural CAD designer, Sunny Salh as a civil design engineer, Mathew Amrhein as a project manager, Rose C. Bechtold as a communications specialist and Caleb Heeringa as a communications coordinator. Ostling will use AutoCAD for detailing and editing construction documents. He was a structural CAD designer for Lower Columbia Engineering in Oregon, and is pursuing a project management degree. Salh was a civil engineering designer at Merrick & Co. in Colorado. He is working on a drainage study for Renton Heritage Apartments.

Amrhein has seven years of engineering experience, with projects that include Microsoft Building 123. At DCI, Amrhein is responsible for structural analysis, design and management. Bechtold has marketing experience at Callison and Omax Corp. For 13 years, she was a technical writer and engineering aide at Esterline Korry Electronics. She will do marketing, web content and blog posts, and help pursue new projects. Heeringa has experience as a newspaper reporter and editor, mostly in Sammamish. He will produce content. DCI is a civil and structural consulting firm, with offices also in Spokane; Portland and Eugene, Ore.; San Diego, Irvine and San Francisco, Calif.; Austin, Texas; and Anchorage.

Professional Service Industries hired Richard Fredricksen as a project geologist in Lynnwood. Fredricksen has been a project geologist in Washington and Oregon for 20 years, mostly with Oregon Department of Transportation. The firm provides environmental engineering and testing, and is based in Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.

24 Hour Fitness

24 Hour Fitness will open a 24 Hour Fitness Super-Sport club on Saturday at 18006 120th Ave. in Bothell. Zach Miller is club manager. The 43,147-square-foot gym will be open around the clock.

REI

REI hired Alex Thompson as vice president of communications and public affairs. He was executive vice president of corporate and public affairs in the New York office of Edelman, a global communications firm. He also worked for Edelman in London, Hong Kong and Singapore.

In the past 18 months the firm has added 30 employees and is planning more hires this year. The Bellevue office is scheduled to move to 11225 S.E. Sixth St., Suite 100, in September. Jennifer Campbell, an attorney in the Seattle office of Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt, was elected treasurer of the Washington Defense Trial Lawyers. Campbell is co-lead of Schwabe's Business and Product Liability practice group.

Will Lutgen and Scott M. Lindsay have formed Symbios Consulting in Vancouver to provide business counseling, industry marketing and government affairs services in energy and technology in the Pacific Northwest, Alaska, California, Nevada, Montana and Idaho. Lutgen recently retired from Northwest Public Power Association. Lindsay was NWPPA's director of government relations and regulatory affairs.

Bellevue-based Express Construction added Mike Horgan as senior project manager, Jason Nix and Max Jones as project managers, and Kristine Sales as project engineer. Horgan is focusing on multifamily, mixed-use and commercial shell-and-core projects. Nix is working with special projects. Jones is experienced in shell-and-core construction, as well as special projects/tenant improvements. Sales is working with the project mangers.

Walsh Construction Co. hired Steve Pollard and Mark Olson as superintendents in the company's Washington region. Pollard and Olson each have more than 35 years of construction experience. They are in charge of safety, quality, project schedule, budget, and job site administration and logistics. Walsh has offices in Seattle, Tacoma and Portland.

Hainline & Associates

Seattle-based construction consulting firm Hainline & Associates named Jim Stoner chief operating officer. Stoner, PE, CMVP, has more than 20 years of experience as a contractor, design engineer, owner representative and expert witness. He has been with the company since 2006 and has worked on Safeco Field, Skyline at First Hill, Lincoln Square and the Four Seasons Hotel.

Geotechnical construction firm Hayward Baker hired Mark Rohrbach as senior engineer in its Seattle office. Rohrbach has more than 15 years of experience in geotechnical engineering. Before joining HB, he was a senior engineer with E3RA Inc. and Lachel & Associates. He has worked on power plants, dams, subways, elevated trains, large sewer and transit tunnel projects. Hayward Baker is part of the Keller Group of companies.

HNTB

Keith Powley, senior construction manager in HNTB's Seattle office, earned his Certified Construction Manager credential. In order to earn the certificate, construction managers must meet education criteria and field experience, and understand construction-management best practices. The CCM is accredited by the American National Standards Institute and the International Organization for Standardization 17024 standard.
