Thomas Vogele, formerly of Michael Mondavi's Folio Fine Wine Partners, and Steve Reed have opened DrinkSpace, an agency for boutique alcohol beverage producers. It will provide sales and marketing expertise to small wineries, breweries, cideries and distilleries. Vogele worked for E&J Gallo Winery and Trinchero Family Estates. Reed has 23 years of experience as a marketing executive.

Washington State University

A naming celebration for Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture will take place at 6 p.m. Sept. 18 on the Pullman campus of Washington State University. The new name honors Gene and Linda Voiland for their contributions to the college and WSU. Gene Voiland received a B.S. in chemical engineering from WSU in 1969 and was president and CEO of CalResources LLC and Aera Energy LLC.

Benton-Franklin Superior Court

Gov. Jay Inslee named Alex Ekstrom, an assistant U.S. attorney from Richland, as a judge in Benton-Franklin Superior Court. He fills the seat left vacant by Judge Sal Mendoza Jr., who was appointed to U.S. District Court in Eastern Washington. Ekstrom has been a federal prosecutor since 2008.

Itron

Itron of Liberty Lake named W. Mark Schmitz executive vice president and chief financial officer. He has 40 years of experience in finance in manufacturing, service, retail and technology industries, and most recently was CFO of Alghanim Industries in Kuwait.

NBS works on Market Square deal

Mike Wood and Austin Johnson of NBS Financial Services secured $7.4 million in acquisition financing for Market Square, a building at 1415 Western Ave.

A limited liability company that shares a Seattle address with Stream Real Estate and is managed by Stream managing member Tim Cavanaugh bought the six-story, 44,100-square-foot office building last month for $12.4 million.

The seller was an entity related to Goodman Real Estate and a Texas company called 9520 Westminster Glen Avenue LLC.

The structure was built in 1908 and was recently renovated.

NBS Financial is the financing arm of NAI Norris, Beggs & Simpson, a commercial real estate company in Portland.

Redfin expands to Tucson

Seattle-based Redfin has expanded its home buying and selling services to Tucson. Sara Fischer leads the Tucson team as the local Redfin market manager. Fischer started her career as a real estate agent 19 years ago in San Diego. In Tucson Fischer will be responsible for building a team of local agents. Redfin says it was “founded and run by technologists,” and uses online and mobile tools to give customers up-to-date information about the for-sale market.

‘Easements In Washington' Oct. 30

The Seminar Group is holding its third annual Easements in Washington conference Oct. 30 at the Washington State Convention Center. The all-day session will cover new types of easements being sought by government, special valuation issues, and how to protect clients and preserve property rights. Michael A. The Edmonds office of Landau Associates promoted Allan Barton to GIS analyst and Eric Zick to CAD/GIS technician, Steven Shaw to project geologist, Chad McMullen to senior engineer and Kenneth Reid to senior geologist. The Tacoma office promoted Benjamin Lee to senior staff engineer. In Portland Heather Nielsen was promoted to project geologist and Erin Waibel to assistant geologist. Barton does cartographic production and geographic data analysis. Zick communicates with internal clients. Shaw specializes in sediment characterization and remediation. McMullen works in the geotechnical group. Reid develops and manages complex site investigations and trains junior staff. Lee does groundwater flow modeling and hydrogeologic field work. Nielsen does environmental due diligence, including hazardous building materials surveys. Waibel does environmental site assessments and operations, and maintenance support on remediation projects. Edmonds-based Landau Associates provides geotechnical and environmental engineering, remediation, permitting and compliance services.

Butters

Lochner hired Aaron Butters and Mark Burrus as senior project managers in the Bellevue office. Butters will work with local agency clients on program management, federal aid and funding advisory services. Butters was with the Washington State Department of Transportation for 30 years in program development and program management. Burrus leads transportation engineering projects at Lochner and growth initiatives in the Northwest region. He also mentors junior engineers on project management and complex projects. Burrus has 16 years of experience in transportation design. Chicago-based Lochner is a transportation and infrastructure company, with offices across the United States, including in Bellevue and Lacey.

Smith

Jacobs Associates promoted Rick Smith to senior associate in Seattle. Smith has 27 years of geotechnical engineering experience for heavy civil design and construction. He has worked on underground projects in Seattle, including the Brightwater conveyance system and University Link Light Rail. He is working on the Rainier Valley wet weather storage project in Seattle. Jacobs Associates provides services for underground projects and in water, wastewater and transportation sectors, with offices in the United States, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

Parsons

Parsons named Michael Cotten senior project manager in the Seattle office. He is an engineer and will focus on large infrastructure projects in the Northwest. Cotten worked with Washington State Department of Transportation for 30 years, most recently as assistant regional administrator for the Northwest. He worked on highway projects in King and Snohomish counties, and Link light rail. Parsons works in the engineering, construction, technical and professional services industries.

Oles Morrison Rinker & Baker, a law firm focused on construction law, government contracts and commercial litigation, added Alix K. Schroeder to the Government Contracts and Construction Law practice groups in Seattle. Her practice focuses on government contracts.

Her Interactive named Penny Milliken as its new CEO. She has more than 20 years of entertainment experience and replaces Stuart Moulder who has served as CEO since May 2011. Milliken's background includes theme parks, motion pictures, animation, television, home entertainment, new media and e-commerce. Her Interactive creates mystery adventure games and apps.
