Becca Kenna-Schenk is director of government relations at Western Washington University. Kenna-Schenk was most recently director of government relations for the Washington Student Achievement Council. She will be an advocate and liaison for Western with the legislature, governor and other agencies, succeeding Sherry Burkey, who is retiring Oct. 10.
Cedarbrook Lodge, a business and leisure destination near Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, hired David Sullivan as general manager. He will handle daily operations and manage expansion of the lodge and opening of The Spa at Cedarbrook. Sullivan was with Semiahmoo Resort and worked at hotels in London, the Caribbean, Vancouver, Singapore and Las Vegas. Coastal Hotels is the property manager for Cedarbrook.
Duane Fladland is director of the Washington State Small Business Development Center Network. He joined the Washington SBDC as associate state director in January 2010 and had been interim state director since April. It is a network of 26 certified business advisors and two trade experts who advise small business owners statewide.

Jones Lang LaSalle added Joe Smurdon to the regional leadership team and hired Lloyd Low as a senior vice president on the agency leasing team. Smurdon will work out of the Seattle and Bellevue offices to expand the company's work in office, multifamily, capital markets, investment banking, development services and property management. Smurdon has more than 25 years of experience and last ran JLL's marketing and business development team for the Americas. Low will work with Stuart Williams and Joe Gowan to represent landlords, with a focus on downtown Seattle.
Houston-based Arvo Realty Advisors added Onpoint Real Estate Services of Seattle as an affiliate. Arvo said it wants to expand its reach in the Pacific Northwest. Jaebadiah S. Gardner, owner and managing partner, and Damon McGruder, owner and designated broker of Onpoint, will lead the Seattle operations. Arvo is a minority-owned firm that offers brokerage, consulting, research and valuation services to corporations, government entities, small business and investors. Arvo works on office, industrial, retail, multifamily, build-to-suit and land transactions.
The dwindling supply of buildable land is the topic of the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties' 2014 Housing Summit at 7:30 a.m. Sept. 23 at Meydenbauer Convention Center in Bellevue. Speakers include: David Crowe, chief economist and senior vice president of the National Association of Home Builders, Todd Britsch of New Home Trends and Nancy Bainbridge Rogers of Cairncross & Hempelmann. John L. Scott Real Estate has agreed to acquire the Kitsap County offices of Reid Real Estate. Reid has more than 45 brokers in Silverdale, Bremerton and Port Orchard. Jerry Reid, who founded the company in 1967, is retiring. Offices in Port Orchard and Silverdale will be merged with John L. Scott offices there, and the Bremerton office will be re-branded as a John L. Scott office. The deal is expected to close later this month.

Northeastern University named Wesley Jones employer engagement manager for the Seattle graduate campus. Jones formerly managed the Veterans Advancement Program at Bellevue College and now will lead outreach to corporations and organizations. He will focus on introducing businesses to the university's cooperative education program.
The Betty Bowen Committee named Ralph Pugay winner of the 2014 Betty Bowen Award, which comes with an unrestricted cash prize of $15,000. A selection of his work will be on view at SAM beginning Oct. 16. Gretchen Frances Bennett won the Special Recognition Award for $2,500 and Klara Glosova won the Kayla Skinner Special Recognition Award, also for $2,500.
Clark Nuber, a CPA and consulting firm based in Bellevue, added three people to the firm. Bashair Alazadi and Markus Hammond have joined as audit associates, and Joe Parker is a senior in the State and Local Tax department.
