Seattle-based Hargis Engineers promoted Jared Robillard to principal, and Chris Skiles, David Bultez, Grant Jamison, Kevin Eldredge, Michael Baranick, Paul Robaidek, Rawley Reeser, Ryan Callahan and Shane Fischer to senior associate. Robillard is on the mechanical leadership team. He specializes in mission-critical, academic, student housing and civic spaces, with projects at Bellevue College and Shoreline Community College. Skiles works on commercial projects, with clients that include Amazon and Microsoft. Bultez does infrastructure planning and upgrades, including work for Western Washington University and K-12 schools. Jamison is an electrical engineer focused on retail projects. Eldredge's has a background in telecom and audio-visual systems, with clients that include Amazon. Baranick has a background in mechanical engineering and energy conservation for public and private projects. Robaidek has two decades of experience in institution planning and tech upgrades. Reeser has 12 years of mechanical engineering experience and is working on retail projects. Callahan is an electrical engineer for retail projects. Fischer is leading acquisitions and new office openings for high tech clients in Asia and Europe. Hargis is focused on mechanical, electrical, telecom, security, energy and commissioning services.

Seattle-based Conard Romano Architects hired Maria Simon as a project manager. Simon has 16 years of experience in Seattle designing, developing and managing single-family projects, including ones on challenging sites. Conard Romano Architects designs homes and remodels.

Autumn Hewitt and Anthony Finley joined Spokane-based Bernardo|Wills Architects as BIM/CAD technicians. Hewitt's work includes new credit union branches and remodel of Newport Hospital & Health Services in Newport. She has five years of BIM/CAD experience and was a detailer 1 with Benson Industries. Finley is working on Eagle River Luxury Living, a senior community in Eagle, Idaho. He has five years of BIM/CAD experience and was a project manager/designer with Evergreen Truss & Supply. Bernardo|Wills provides architecture, interior design, landscape architecture and master planning.

Mundell

Tacoma-based Helix Design Group hired John Mundell as an architectural job captain and Rachel Fatum as an administrative assistant. Mundell has 28 years of experience in architecture, and eight years in construction. He focuses on federal, civic and commercial projects, and has done housing, aquatic and theater projects. Fatum's background includes experience in the construction industry. Helix provides architecture, interior design and graphic design.

Janay Collins joined the staff of WNPA as advertising director. She will assist with the annual convention and Better Newspaper Contest. She has worked at Microsoft as a research manager and at the Port Townsend Leader managing special promotions.

Habitat for Humanity

About 800 people helped Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King County raise more than $690,000 at Habitat's 2017 “Beyond the Build” Luncheon on March 14 in Seattle. Funds will go toward home ownership, repairs and community programs. Volunteer Bob Moore won the Community Leadership Award for his long history with Habitat.

SMH has hired Joshua Nelson as chief technology officer, which is a new position. He will oversee tech investments such as the electronic medical record system myAvatar from Netsmart Technologies. Nelson has tech experience at Carney Badley Spellman, Perkins Coie, Swedish Medical Center and the University of Washington. The nonprofit SMH provides mental health and related services in King County.

State Board of Education

Gov. Jay Inslee has appointed Olympia resident Dr. Alan Burke to the State Board of Education. Burke has served in public education for more than 40 years, including state-level education policy. He fills Position 5 on the 16-member board.

In its Seattle office, Lease Crutcher Lewis promoted Jarrett Moore and Jon Strickling to superintendents and Justin Grindol to field superintendent; and hired Bill Sweeney and Zach Amende as superintendents. Moore has been with Lewis since 2007 and has focused on life sciences projects. Strickling has been with the company since 2009 and graduated from the Superintendent Career Training Program through the Carpenters International Training Fund. Grindol has been at Lewis for a year and has 16 years of industry experience. He holds a bachelor's degree in construction management from the University of Washington. Sweeney has been in construction for 30 years and has focused on healthcare projects. He holds a construction management certificate from the UW. Amende has 19 years of construction experience.

Gary Chubb has become a project executive at Swinerton Builders Seattle, where he is rolling out the Sustainable Living Innovations Program. Chubb has over 27 years of experience in managing design and construction, and is a graduate of the University of Washington.

Colvos Construction

Devin Page and Anders Bjorn formed Colvos Construction in Tacoma. The firm offers pre-construction, general contracting, construction management and design-build services. Page is president and Bjorn is vice president. Page previously was vice president at Rush Commercial Construction, and also worked at Andersen Construction and Skanksa. Bjorn has 14 years of construction experience and holds a bachelor's degree in construction management from Brigham Young University Idaho. He previously was a project manager at Andersen, and also worked at Advanced Technology Construction and Turner Construction. Other team members are superintendent Jeff Bird, operations support manager Michelle Cartwright and project engineer Tim Callahan. Bird previously worked at Sellen Construction. Cartwright and Callahan came from Rush Commercial. Colvos intends to hire a project manager, project engineer and two superintendents this year.

AGC of America

A handful of Northwest firms recently won Willis Towers Watson Construction Safety Excellence Awards from the Associated General Contractors of America: Guy F. Atkinson Construction of Renton won first place in the Highway & Transportation category for under 400,000 worker hours; Cobra BEC of Spokane won first place in the Specialty category for 300,000-500,000 worker hours; Omega Morgan Millwright of Hillsboro, Oregon, won first place in the Heavy category for 200,000-1 million hours; and Goodfellow Bros. of Portland won second place in the Heavy category for under 200,000 hours.
