Seattle-based landscape architecture firm Gustafson Guthrie Nichol promoted Makie Suzuki to senior associate, and hired Nanxi Dong and Helen Pierson as design interns. Suzuki has led design projects, and is working on Rainier Square in Seattle. Dong holds a master of landscape architecture degree from the University of Pennsylvania, and has worked on gardens, community designs and regional plans. Pierson holds a bachelor of arts in architecture from Washington University in St. Louis.

KMD Architects in Seattle hired Sharon Rhea as a senior interior designer and Aaron Yang as a job captain. Rhea was formerly with Johnson Braund. Yang is a graduate of the University of Illinois and Escuela Tecnica Superior de Arquitectura del Valles in Spain. KMD provides architectural, interior design, planning and contract administration services.

Build LLC promoted Bart Gibson and Sandy Ha to partner. Gibson is a project manager with over 20 years of experience in commercial, tenant improvement and residential projects, including Park Modern in Seattle's University District. Ha is an architect who focuses on housing design and permitting, as well as educational, commercial and mixed-use projects. She is working on 602 Flats on Capitol Hill in Seattle.

In Spokane, NAC Architecture hired Georgia Larsen as an architectural designer and Jessica Shoemaker and Kris Jeske as architects. Larsen is working on Moses Lake High School No. 2. She was with Stantec in Spokane. Shoemaker is working on the Northwest Pediatric Ophthalmology renovation. She was with ZBA Architecture in Spokane. Jeske is working on Moses Lake High School No. 2. He was with ALSC Architects in Spokane. NAC provides planning, design, engineering, and capital facilities consulting services.

Ahtna Engineering Services

Gould

Ahtna promoted Timothy F. Gould to president of subsidiary Ahtna Engineering Services. Gould will oversee services nationwide, including construction; environmental studies, remediation, and compliance; and facility management. He has been vice president of AES and Ahtna Environmental since 2014 and has 27 years in the consulting and construction markets. AES is a federal and commercial contractor. Ahtna is one of 13 Alaska Native regional corporations.

Portland-based FFA Architecture and Interiors hired Tejara Brown as an interior designer, Kaylyn Berry as an architectural staff member and Tim Mitchell as a project architect/historic architect. Brown has six years of experience in the architectural industry. She is working on Goldendale Library's interiors. Berry has over four years of experience in the industry, and is working on the Lincoln City Police Facility. Mitchell has over 23 years of architectural experience. He specializes in historic preservation, and is working on Yosemite National Park projects, including Half-Dome Village Cabins.

Mount Rainier National Park

Tracy Swartout was named acting superintendent for Mount Rainier National Park. On Jan. 8, Swartout will take over for Randy King, who will retire after 40 years with the National Park Service. Swartout is deputy superintendent at the park. The search for a new superintendent will begin shortly.

OncoResponse

In Seattle, OncoResponse added Anil Singhal, Ph.D., as chief scientific officer, and Kamal D. Puri, Ph.D., as vice president of research and development. Singhal comes from AbbVie, and Puri from Celgene. Houston-based OncoResponse develops therapeutic antibodies for cancer patients.

Kim Chau joined Kent-based Novinium as director of marketing. Chau previously held marketing roles at Product Creation Studio, Microsoft, AT&T and Ericsson. She holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Texas A&M University, and is completing an MBA through California Southern University. Novinium rejuvenates underground cables for electric utilities.





Absher Construction Co.

Employees of Absher Construction Co. last month packed and delivered 600 meals for the company's 2017 Holiday Lights — an event that partners with community-based organizations where Absher has jobsites. Meals were distributed through Tukwila Pantry, Auburn School District, Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound, Puyallup Tribe of Indians, North Helpline, Maple Valley Food Bank & Emergency Services, Muckleshoot Housing Authority and JBLM.
