Cozen O'Connor

Frank Abramonte and Lorraine Linford joined the Seattle office of Cozen O'Connor. Both come from Seed IP Law Group and practice intellectual property law. Abramonte specializes in patents for electrical, software, electro-mechanical engineering and medical devices. Linford focuses on global patents and trademarks in the mechanical and aeronautical engineering, automotive, apparel, software and personal care products industries. Cozen O'Connor has 28 offices on two continents.

Ste. Michelle Wine Estates

In Woodinville, Jim Mortensen will become president and CEO of Ste. Michelle Wine Estates when Ted Baseler retires Oct. 1. Mortensen held senior management positions at Philip Morris in Switzerland, Mexico, Japan and the U.S. Before that, he was senior vice president of sales and distribution for Miller Brewing Co. Baseler has been with Ste. Michelle for 34 years, including 17 years as president and CEO.

City of Kent

The city of Kent is taking grant applications Sept. 1 through 30 to help in promoting tourism. The program funds marketing and operations of activities, events or projects that bring more people to the city. Applications will be accepted at KentWA.gov/LTAC.

Witney

Cori Witney and Auldin Ness joined Hermanson Co. as preventive maintenance sales representatives in the Service Department, and Loren Moyer joined as a project executive in the Tenant Improvement Group. Witney has more than 15 years of HVAC sales and service experience. Ness has a broad background in sales, from telecommunications to online marketing services. Moyer spent the past seven years working on tenant improvement projects with Skanska and GLY Construction. Witney and Ness are working in Kent and Moyer is in Seattle.

SMART Heroes

On Monday, the SMART Heroes program graduated a class of 15 Army and Air Force members at the Western Washington Sheet Metal JATC in DuPont. The program provides free sheet metal industry training to military personnel transitioning to civilian life. SMART is the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers.

Kenworth Truck Co.

Kenworth Truck Co. recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of its 300,000-square-foot Renton assembly plant, which has produced more than 144,000 trucks. Bart Hoemann is plant manager.

Symetra

In Bellevue, Symetra Life Insurance Co. hired Trinity Parker as senior vice president of marketing, communications and public affairs. Parker was regional manager of government and community relations for Sound Transit, and vice president of the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce. Symetra Life provides employee benefits, annuities and life insurance. It is a subsidiary of Symetra Financial Corp.

EarthCorps

Seattle-based nonprofit EarthCorps elected lawyer Frank Paganelli to its board. Paganelli is a shareholder at Lane Powell in Seattle, where he leads its Startups & Emerging Companies Team. EarthCorps brings young adults from the around the globe for leadership training in Seattle about climate change, pollution and ecological degradation.

Switch

Switch, a Seattle-based financial technology company, added former Mastercard executive Carol A. Cosby to its board and as an advisor. Cosby also was senior director at JP Morgan Chase and senior vice president at Visa.

Clearwater Paper

Spokane-based Clearwater Paper sold its Ladysmith, Wisconsin, plant to Dunn Paper for $72 million. Clearwater will use the funds to expand its Shelby, North Carolina, plant and pay down debt. It makes tissue, paperboard and pulp.
