Tarragon signs Nordstrom lease

Down in Sumner, Tarragon is developing what it calls the SeaPORT Logistics Center. The developer just announced that Nordstrom will take the 500,000-square-foot Building 3. Tarragon's Dennis Rattie said in a statement, “We are super excited to have Nordstrom as our newest tenant. Working with Nordstrom and the City of Sumner to make this project a reality has been a total team effort.” Sierra will build the new project, which was designed by Nelson. CBRE's John Sullivan and John Gilliland represented Tarragon, and are brokering all the space at the entire development. Derek Trulson, Scott Carter and Chris Spofford of JLL represented the tenant. Despite the name, Building 3 is the fourth building there. Six are planned, with one already completed, and they could total around 2.7 million square feet.

Kidder Mathews announced the recent hiring of Monica Wallace, who'll be based in the brokerage's Bellevue office. The 20-year industry veteran makes the move from Wallace Properties. She said in a statement, “Joining Kidder Mathews was an easy decision. I have always had great respect for the firm and its broker.” A retail specialist, her past clients have included Regency Centers, Legacy Partners and Pillar Properties. KM's Brian Hatcher said, “We pursued her for a long time, and from what I have learned over the years, the good ones take a lot of time to make the move.”

Gantry lands $36M refi

The SoDo UrbanWorks building sold in April for a little over $53.4 million. It's now owned by Nicola Wealth of Vancouver, B.C. Now Gantry has announced a $36 million refinancing packaged arranged by its principals Brian Bonipart and Michael Taylor. Gantry says the loan came from a life insurer, and features a 5-year, fixed-rate term. Bonipart said in a statement, “Essential retail and exceptional retail are back on the radar for many of Gantry's life (companies).” With tenants including several wineries, San Juan Seltzer and Nine Pies Pizza, Gantry foresees a post-pandemic rebound for in-person gatherings at the SoDo facility.

OZ Navigator expands site

OZ Navigator and architect Neiman Taber are planning an eight-story, 271-unit apartment building in the Rainier Valley, near Othello Station. Now the developer has announced the recent purchase, for nearly $1.8 million, of a small neighboring site. There are no plans yet for the 7,192-square-foot parcel, currently occupied by an old house, which is directly south of the main site. OZ Navigator's Daniel Gallagher said in a statement, “One of our goals is to partner with local communities to design placemaking buildings that add to the vibrancy of the neighborhood and promote walkability. We think Othello is a terrific community, and are pleased to be investing further in the collective future of this historic neighborhood.”

Everett-based Shockey Planning Group appointed Camie Anderson as vice president and principal. A 1999 graduate of Western Washington University with a degree in planning and environmental policy, Anderson joined the firm in 2000. She serves private and public sector clients in all aspects of land use and environmental planning. Shockey Planning Group was founded in 1980 by Reid Shockey, who continues his role and president and managing partner.

WineBid

WineBid, a Seattle-based online wine auction marketplace, added regional account managers in the Rockies, the Southeast, New England, the Mid Atlantic, the Midwest and Hong Kong. WineBid's new regional sales staff will help sellers maximize the value of their collections and get their wines to market more easily by enabling them to connect with wine consignment experts in their own cities. The new account managers join a team of wine auction professionals already in the Northeast, Southeast and Southwest. In addition to working with consignors across the country, WineBid will also continue to offer the Trade Support Program that in 2020 helped many restaurants, wineries and wholesalers offer collections and inventory in response to the need to trim or reposition wine lists and quickly access liquidity. Founded in 1996, WineBid has more than 140,000 registered bidders worldwide. The company has operations in Napa, California.

Washington Federal

Washington Federal, parent company of Washington Federal Bank, announced its board succession planning. Two directors, chair Thomas Kelley and Barbara Smith, will not be nominated for reelection to the board in January 2022, consistent with the company's director retirement policy. Also, the board announced that director Stephen Graham will be appointed chairman following the January 2022 annual meeting. In anticipation of the upcoming retirements, the board has increased the number of seats to 12 and appointed three new directors: Sylvia Hampel, Sean Singleton and Shawn Bice. Hampel brings 25 years of business management experience to the board. She was president of her own company Clearview Cleaning, operating throughout Idaho and three other western states, before selling the company to KBS. She is a licensed real estate broker and owns her own real estate development company. Singleton has experience with J.P. Morgan Chase, and was the founder of Oglethorpe Capital. Bice, a technology executive for more than two decades, is president of products and technology at cloud data company Splunk. In addition, Bice is a former Amazon Web Services vice president and Microsoft executive. Washington Federal Bank, a national bank with headquarters in Seattle, has 226 branches in eight western states.

JETT Landscape Architecture + Design hired landscape architect Todd Bronk as the principal of the recently formed Seattle office, and Troy Britt as a landscape designer. Bronk has 20 years of experience working in the Bay Area and Puget Sound regions for public and private developments focused on urban infill and contextual design. He leads JETT's expansion into the Pacific Northwest. His work includes Spokane's Riverfront Park, Redmond's Central Connector trail and park, the Los Angeles Waterfront, Richmond, B.C.'s Middle Arm Waterfront built for the 2010 Olympic Games, and in Seattle the Marketfront expansion, and open spaces under construction at Midtown Square. Britt is a USGBC accredited SITES professional and an accredited EcoDistricts professional. He has experience in campus, cultural, transportation and open space planning and a background in technical production, 3-D software, graphic visualization and sustainable planting. JETT was founded in 1999 in Oakland, California and has grown to an 18-person landscape architecture firm. Peter is a civil engineer/senior project manager with 24 years of experience in project management and transportation design. Itron has signed a contract with United Utilities to deploy Temetra, Itron's next-generation cloud-based meter management solution. With Temetra, the utility will be equipped to read 1.6 million meters across its services in northwest England. With full mobile integration, Temetra will enable the utility to automate meter reading and meter reads will be securely stored on the cloud. Temetra features an intuitive web-based interface and mapping functionality, and will equip users to modify meter data and assignments anywhere with a web login. Itron, headquartered in Liberty Lake, enables utilities and cities to deliver infrastructure solutions to communities in more than 100 countries.

Seattle-based digital freight network Convoy and Flexport, a platform for global logistics, announced a long-term, strategic partnership to bring end-to-end shipment automation across land, sea and air. The partnership draws on Flexport's international client base and Convoy's North American carrier network to provide customers with logistics services while expanding business capabilities for both companies through a new shared data exchange that integrates shipments across both platforms. Through this partnership, customers will be able to move their goods via international and domestic transportation, all through the Flexport platform. Flexport gains access to Convoy's network of carriers as well as deeper integration with Convoy's products and services, enabling Flexport to scale its truckload service offerings and provide visibility to clients once goods reach domestic ports. Convoy will integrate directly with Flexport's operational dashboard, Transmission, and its network of international clients to further grow its domestic marketplace. Bonifer has nearly 10 years of hands-on experience in the construction trades and is working in the Pendleton, Oregon, office. Yessilth, a member of the Navajo Nation, holds a bachelor's degree in construction management and technology from Arizona State University. Ware recently graduated from the University of Washington with a bachelor's degree in business administration, and is an experienced carpenter specializing in steel framing and drywall. Byers, an enrolled member of the Cherokee Nation, has five years of marketing experience and holds a bachelor's degree in marketing from Portland State University. In Redmond, Deacon Construction hired Kurth Connell as senior project manager; Tony Clay and Tim Hart as superintendents; and Taylor Kennedy and Akanksha Srivastava as project engineers. Connell is a University of Washington graduate, with a bachelor's degree in construction management, and has about 20 years of industry experience. Clay is working on a project in South Seattle and Hart is on an Eastside job. Kennedy joins Deacon permanently after completing an internship with the company and graduating from Central Washington University earlier this year. Srivastava is a graduate of the VKA School of Architecture (bachelor's in architecture), the National University of Singapore (master's in urban design) and the University of Washington (master's in construction management).

PCL Construction Services promoted Peter Losh to operations manager in Seattle, overseeing projects in the Pacific Northwest. Losh earned a bachelor's degree in construction management from the University of Washington and joined PCL in 2005 as an intern. He was hired as a field engineer and was later promoted to project engineer, project manager and senior project manager. His projects include the Spire condominium tower, which has the first automated parking system in Seattle, and the Arrive mixed-use tower.

Skanska USA Building

Skanska USA Building is celebrating its 75th anniversary in Seattle this year in several ways, including committing $75,000 to support the cardiac health of those in the AEC community through the American Heart Association's Hard Hats with Heart campaign. The donation will aid AHA's effort to address key risk factors that industrial workers encounter and help motivate them to live healthier and longer lives. According to the AHA, construction workers are disproportionately affected by cardiovascular disease and stroke.
