Sims

SEATTLE – Schroeter Goldmark & Bender recently welcomed Craig Sims and Kaitlin Cherf to the Seattle-based law firm's shareholder group.

Sims is an accomplished trial lawyer with over 25 years of litigation and leadership experience, whose practice focuses on asbestos and mesothelioma, civil rights, product liability, personal injury and wrongful death. Sims joined SGB in 2018. He has a proven record of accomplishment in litigating cases with significant verdict wins and settlements exceeding $20 million. Before entering private practice, Sims was the Criminal Division Chief in the Seattle Attorney's Office, where he led a team of over 60 attorneys and staff. He also served as a Senior King County prosecutor for more than a decade, where he prosecuted homicide and other high-profile cases. Sims earned his law degree from Seattle University.

Cherf (formerly Wright) joined SGB in 2018, bringing extensive experience and skill in asbestos litigation. During her tenure at SGB, Cherf's focus has included litigation of personal injury and wrongful death cases, along with representing plaintiffs in civil rights matters. In a decade of practicing law, her work has resulted in significant jury awards and settlements for her clients, including a verdict that was the largest in Oregon's history for an asbestos-related disease contracted from occupational exposure in that state. She also helped to set a record in Washington for a case involving take-home asbestos exposure. Cherf graduated from Seattle University School of Law.

Lydig Construction

Bray

Mark Bray recently retired from Lydig Construction after nearly 30 years as a co-owner. Bray became the firm's CFO in 1994, when there were 41 employees and revenues around $60 million. Lydig now has over 170 employees and rang up nearly $375 million in revenue last year. Before joining Lydig, Bray was an accountant in Anchorage, first at Ernst & Whinney for four years and then at Martech USA for four more. Lydig's new CFO is Katie Burton, who spent the past five years as controller at the company, and the previous 15 years at Moss Adams. Bray's son Connor also works at the company, as a project engineer. Lydig has offices in Bellevue, Spokane and Kennewick.

Pacific Northwest Ironworkers Council

McClain

The Iron Workers District Council of the Pacific Northwest promoted Chris McClain to president. McClain succeeds president emeritus Steve Pendergrass, who recently announced his retirement following 42 years of service. McClain was business manager/financial secretary of Iron Workers Local 86, where he has been a member since 1999. Over his career, McClain has worked as an ironworker apprentice, journeyman ironworker, foreman, general foreman, and dispatcher. He was elected business agent in 2012 and took on the additional role of political director in 2015.

Argus Pacific

Argus Pacific transitioned its name to align with the Terracon brand. Mountlake Terrace-based Argus offers industrial hygiene consultation and training related to asbestos, lead, mold, hazardous waste, emergency response, and other occupational health and safety topics. It was bought in 2015 by Olathe, Kansas-based Terracon. Sue Maas in the Mountlake Terrace office was recently named Terracon's national leader for environmental health and safety training.

Skanska

Starting next month, general contractor Skanska is holding its free Construction Building Blocks Training Program, which provides opportunities for small, traditionally marginalized minority-owned businesses to succeed. The 10-week educational series runs March 7-May 9, with Feb. 17 as the deadline to submit applications. Participants in the program receive instruction from Skanska and industry professionals on topics such as project planning, business development, estimating and bonding. Most sessions are virtual to allow for regional participation, however two of the sessions will be held at local Skanska offices (including Seattle and Portland) with happy hours to connect with project teams and leadership. Summit Bank

Oakes

Craig Wanichek, president and chief executive officer of Summit Bank announced that the Oregon-based business bank is growing its presence in the Portland market and expanding into Washington County. The office will be led by veteran community banker Greg Oakes, who started with Summit Bank on January 23. The office is located at 1915 NE Stucki Ave, Hillsboro. Oakes will join the bank as senior vice president and team leader. He has over 34 years of commercial banking experience in the local area. Oakes is a graduate of the University of Oregon, and currently serves as the president of the Rotary of Beaverton and is on the board of directors of Community Access Services II Inc., a local non-profit that supports individuals with developmental and physical disabilities. This office was opened late last year by senior vice president, and business client advisor Joshua Adams. Additionally, Wanichek announced that Jamie Moffitt, senior vice president for finance and administration and chief financial officer of the University of Oregon is joining the Board of Directors of Summit Bank. Moffitt steps in for Ann Marie Mehlum, founding president and CEO of Summit Bank and member of the Summit Bank Board of Directors since 2017. Mehlum is retiring from the board in April, 2023. Summit Bank has offices in Eugene, Central Oregon, and downtown Portland.

Tanium

Tanium appointed Dan Streetman to the role of chief executive officer. Orion Hindawi, who is the co-founder and current CEO of Tanium, will assume the role of executive chairman. David Hindawi, co-founder of Tanium, will transition to chairman emeritus. Most recently, Streetman served as CEO of Allvue Systems, and prior to that, he served as CEO of TIBCO Software. In his earlier career, Streetman oversaw data-driven transformations at BMC, Salesforce, and C3.ai. Streetman becomes the newest addition to an executive leadership team, including Bina Chaurasia, chief administrative and operating officer; Charles Ross, chief customer officer; Marc Levine, chief financial officer; Nic Surpatanu, chief product officer; Steve Daheb, chief marketing officer; Tobias Julén, chief people officer; and Tyker Fagg, chief revenue officer. Tanium is a IT operations and security management company and supplier of converged endpoint management based in Kirkland.

StoryBuilt plans Beacon Hill project

Following a $4.6 million land deal this week at 2123 18th Ave. S. on Beacon Hill, StoryBuilt is planning a 44-unit townhouse project it calls Sumie. It'll replace one house on a full block on the north end of the hill. The developer and builder hopes to break ground this summer, with completion in 2025. The firm's Patrick Cobb said in a statement, “We believe this is a great site because of the big east-facing views, the walkability to light rail, shops and restaurants, and the shared community spaces. Beacon Hill is a vibrant urban neighborhood with excellent parks and access to downtown Seattle.” Units will range from one- to three-bedroom townhouses, with prices likely to start in the low $500,000s, then range up to $1 million or so. The developer is meanwhile nearing a master use permit on its 197-unit Josephine in Columbia City.

Eversole

Our state chapter of NAIOP has a new executive director: Mary Eversole. She makes the move from Pierce County Medical Society. She said in a statement, “I am thrilled about this opportunity to help grow and develop our state. I look forward to working closely with

the board of directors and strengthening our relationship with the community.”

JLL

Thakur

JLL announced its recent hiring of Rajeev Thakur, who joins the location strategy group as senior managing director. He makes the move from BeyondHQ, and had a prior stint at Newmark. Joe Smurdon runs the location group, and said in a statement, “We are excited to add Rajeev to our vibrant team. His industry knowledge and unique background provide an unparalleled.” Said Thakur, “I look forward to working with the professionals at JLL and continuing to deliver outstanding outcomes.”

M&M loans over $4M for Yakima units

Marcus & Millichap Capital said it recently arranged a $4.1 million bridge loan for the unnamed buyer of the Powerhouse Villas duplex portfolio in Yakima. The five-year-old complex has 24 units. M&M's Tammy Linden secured the funding, and its Zachary Howe brokered the deal from three separate sellers. (The aggregate purchase price wasn't disclosed.) Linden said in a statement, “The bridge financing we arranged provides them time to reposition the asset.” The note comes with a 10% interest rate, with a 12-month period of interest-only payments.

Senior living featured at NAIOP gathering

This month's NAIOP breakfast meeting, come Feb. 15, will focus on senior living. On hand to discuss that market will be a panel including Steve Knipp, Noelle Cooper of Lane Powell, Walter Zisette of Providence and Brian Palmore of Aegis Living. (The latter's Aegis Laurelhurst, pictured, has topped out near that neighborhood.) The event begins at 8 a.m. at the Grand Hyatt Seattle. Details and registration: naiopwa.org.

Berkadia and Knight Frank to partner

In a global alliance, Berkadia and Knight Frank recently announced a new relationship. The former is mainly a broker, and the latter mainly a consultant. Berkadia CEO Justin Wheeler said in a statement, “Berkadia's depth of industry knowledge and experience will flow seamlessly with Knight Frank's vast global network and valuation expertise to shift our transaction life cycle into high gear.” Knight Frank's William Beardmore-Gray added, “Together, we have created an alliance focused on our clients' needs, providing strategic advice and delivering a range of best-in-class capital markets solutions.” The deal, not a merger, will span 558 offices worldwide, with over 22,750 professionals in their ranks.

Washington Trust Bank

Washington Trust Bank added Kevin Bedlington to its commercial banking team in the north Puget Sound region as vice president and relationship manager. Bedlington brings over 22 years of experience in the financial industry, having worked in commercial lending at other western Washington financial institutions since 2001. Bedlington attended Washington State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in agricultural economics. He also holds an MBA in finance from Hawaii Pacific University. He is involved with numerous community and professional organizations including the American Bankers Association, Lighthouse Mission Ministries Foundation and Risk Management Association. Washington Trust Bank is an independently owned full-service commercial bank, serving the Northwest region since 1902. P-Patch Community Gardening Program

The Seattle City Council and Mayor Bruce Harrell have proclaimed 2023 to be the Year of Community Gardening in honor of the P-Patch Community Gardening Program's 50th anniversary. The P-Patch Community Gardening Program, managed by the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods, is the largest municipally managed community gardening program west of New York. Community gardeners grow food, flowers, and herbs on 15 acres of land across the city of Seattle and provide stewardship for an additional 35 acres. All P-Patch gardens are open to the public to enjoy and are utilized as restorative spaces, learning and idea incubators, and venues for community gatherings.

ZoomInfo

Vancouver-based ZoomInfo, a global provider of modern go-to-market software, data, and intelligence, appointed Ali Dasdan as chief technology officer and Dave Justice as chief revenue officer. Dasdan joins ZoomInfo from Atlassian, where he was the head of engineering for work management. Dasdan will oversee the company's innovation and development efforts, including leading the product-led growth organization focused on bringing the ZoomInfo platform to more users. Nir Keren, ZoomInfo's chief technology officer since 2015, will be leaving the organization. Justice, who will join ZoomInfo on Feb. 6, served as chief revenue officer of PagerDuty for the past three years. He previously held senior sales positions at Salesforce and Cisco.
