The Vancouver Housing Authority teamed with the Clark County YMCA to develop an innovative combination of 296 affordable apartments atop a new Y. The apartments are called Springbrook Village. The National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials liked the result enough to give it a 2001 Award of Excellence in Administrative Innovation. The partnership between the housing authority and the Y is the first of its kind in the nation, the association said. "The collaboration added affordable housing stock, gave low-income people opportunities to grow personally and in their family lives, and created a quality recreation facility for the entire community."
