WestCoast Hospitality

Art Coffey was promoted to president of WestCoast Hotels. Coffey still holds his previous title of executive vice president and chief financial officer for parent company WestCoast Hospitality Corp. of Spokane, which finished buying Red Lion Hotels Inc. of Vancouver. With the acquisition, WestCoast owns, manages and franchises 93 hotels in 16 states. During Coffey's 13 years with WestCoast, the company has grown from three hotels. The company went public in 1998. It also owns an entertainment ticket service and a real estate services company.

Sharon Sanchez rose from vice president of operations and brand management for Red Lion to executive vice president of WestCoast Hotels' hotel division. Sanchez was instrumental in Doubletree Hotels' purchase of Red Lion in 1996 and Promus Corp.'s acquistion of Doubletree in 1997. She chairs the transition team that's integrating Red Lion into WestCoast.

Charlie Cahill, also from Red Lion, became senior vice president of marketing for WestCoast Hotels. Cahill came to Red Lion in 1997 from Doubletree. He worked as director of marketing for Marriott from 1985 to 1996.

Red Lion's vice president of development, Manfred Gerling, received that title for WestCoast Hotels, which said Gerling doubled the number of Red Lion-branded hotels during a two-year period. Mark Hanson, also out of the Red Lion fold, was named development director.

Hotel broker Chris Burdett of Colliers International said Red Lion executives provide experience in franchising, which is new to WestCoast.
