Mutual Interest, the Seattle nonprofit that pools money to help homeless people pay deposits on apartments, distributed $50,000 in grants for this year, double last year's total.
The money will help about 100 families move from transitional housing into their own apartments, said Mutual Interest Executive Director John Lang.
The funds went to the following social service providers, who direct it to families in need: Family Services Transitional Assistance Program, Fremont Public Association’s Housing Stability Program, the Salvation Army, Seattle Emergency Housing Services, The Homelessness Project, and the YWCA.
A major portion of the money came from the apartment industry through the Rental Housing Association of Puget Sound, Lang said.
