The nationwide Mortgage Bankers Association honored HomeStreet Bank chairman Richard Swanson with its Distinguished Service Award for this year. Swanson is a member of MBA's board of directors and "has been invaluable in helping MBA to achieve its goals," said the association's chairman, John Courso. Swanson's contributions included analyzing legislative and regulatory issues for MBA's leadership, revamping its Investment Management Committee, spearheading MBA technology initiatives and chairing the Ethics Task Force. After working as a real estate finance lawyer for Hillis, Clark, Martin and Peterson in Seattle, Swanson served 11 years as Seattle-based HomeStreet Bank's CEO. He's also a director and vice chair of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Seattle and recently completed a two-year turn on the Fannie Mae Advisory Council. He was also a founding member of the advisory panel for the Washington State Department of Financial Institutions.
