Pioneer Human Services

Pioneer Human Services, a Seattle-based nonprofit social-enterprise organization, was honored for expanding affordable housing. Marla Gese and Martha Martin of Pioneer accepted the Friend of Housing Organizational Achievement Award from the Washington State Housing Finance Commission. Pioneer has provided housing for ex-offender and at-risk populations since 1963, and has expanded to Auburn, Bellingham, Spokane and Tacoma, with 675 units in 21 properties. Other enterprises include cafés, institutional food, sheet metal fabrication, machining, food distribution and contract packaging.
