Capitol Hill Housing's 12th Avenue Arts is one of 22 finalists for Urban Land Institute's Global Awards for Excellence competition. 12th Avenue Arts is the only Seattle project to make the final cut, and one of 11 from the U.S. Six of the finalists are from Asia and five are from Europe.

The six-story building at 1620 12th Ave. on Capitol Hill has 88 units of affordable housing, theater space, offices, retail and underground parking for the Seattle Police Department.

SMR Architects designed 12th Avenue Arts, and Walsh Construction Co. is the general contractor.

Other team members are: Coughlin Porter Lundeen, civil and structural engineer; The Greenbusch Group, plumbing, mechanical and acoustical engineer; Glumac, electrical engineer; Place+Land, landscape architect; JRS Engineering, building envelope; and PLA designs, which did theater design.

ULI's Global Awards for Excellence began in 1979. Winners of the awards show a high standard of excellence in design, construction, economics, planning and management.

The winners will be announced at ULI's Fall Meeting, Oct. 5 through 8 in San Francisco.
