Uwajimaya said its new Kai Market will open this month in Skanska USA's 400 Fairview building in South Lake Union.
The grab-and-go market will occupy a 5,500-square-foot space, with a focus on fresh seafood and Asian fare. It was designed by Graham Baba Architects and Turnstyle, and built by Skanska.
Uwajimaya President Denise Moriguchi said in a press release, “Kai Market is about options.” Lunch items will include bento boxes served in the dining area. Fresh seafood and Asian products will be available for shoppers to take home after work.
The market will have a huge shellfish tank — seven feet tall and 12 feet wide — which Skanska says will be the state's largest.
Kai Market joins other operators in 400 Fairview: Caffe Ladro, Meat & Bread, Juicy Cafe and Verde & Co., Bar Harbor and Trophy Cupcakes.
