The nonprofit Skills Inc., which trains and employs disabled workers and serves the aerospace industry, was founded in North Seattle in 1966. It moved to Ballard in 1973, where it bought its first property at 825 N.W. 47th St., then gradually increased its holdings.
Skills is now based in Auburn, near the municipal airport, where it has expanded operations to three manufacturing and parts finishing plants. The latest opened two years ago, about the same time Skills sold one Ballard property for about $2.5 million
