Church plans 62 low-income units for Central Area seniors

The checkboard design for the central stairwell alludes to the mosaic architecture and bell tower of the nearby Mount Zion Baptist Church.

Through its housing arm, Mount Zion Baptist Church has long owned a four-plex at 1722 19th Ave. in Seattle. Now it's planning to redevelop with a new seven-story, 62-unit building intended for low-income seniors at risk of displacement in that fast-changing neighborhood. It'll include supportive services for residents. The project has a nonpublic administrative design review today.
