U-Haul has long owned a midblock property at 1119 N.W. Leary Way. That's in the Ballard Interbay Northend Manufacturing and Industrial Center, aka the BINMIC, which restricts the property's use. Now, with its development arm Amerco Real Estate, U-Haul is planning to redevelop with a five-story self-storage building. Early plans were filed last week.
The 23,208-square-foot property is zoned up to 65 feet. The new building would have almost 117,000 square feet, including the basement. The ground floor would have 53 structured parking stalls and/or loading bays — along with a retail area and offices. Storage units of varying sizes would number about 905.
