Crews from contractor J.M. Riley recently closed a storefront at Harbor Steps, at 1201 First Ave., as part of an effort to combine two vacant retail bays inside. Work began several months ago on behalf of owner EQR for a previously unreported new project by Amazon.
That company is notoriously secretive about its new brick-and-mortar ventures, some of which only last a few years — like the bookstore at University Village. The 1201 First project is described in permit records as a “change use from retail to retail and restaurant.”
