UNIVERSITY PLACE — Plans to develop a luxury resort at the Chambers Bay Golf Course have been scrapped due to financing issues, according to a new release issued by Pierce County and the project developers.
In 2019, Pierce County signed a ground lease agreement with Chambers Bay Resort LLC (which includes Absher Construction) to develop and build the resort. The project called for a 220,842-square-foot resort with a three-story, 171-key hotel, along with a restaurant, spa, meeting space and adjacent casitas. An initial phase of work was estimated to cost $70 million.
