Tacoma Marketplace is the new moniker for the 408 apartments planned on the former Kmart property in Tacoma. Goodman Real Estate acquired the over 10-acre site two years ago in a $14 million deal. The project address is at 5132 Sixth Ave., which is a little east of Highway16, near Tacoma Community College.
With Studio Meng Strazzara as its architect, planning also began in 2021. Now, most permits are in place for the 17 or 18 three-story buildings, and Goodman will evidently build and open Tacoma Marketplace in phases.
Per its usual custom, Goodman will build the project, which includes 530 parking spaces — both surface and garage stalls. Plans indicate at least one amenity building.
Goodman told the Tacoma News Tribune that it expected Phase I, with the number of units unspecified, to open early next year. The old store has been demolished, and earth work now looks to be underway.
