Something new, blue and curvy in Totem Lake

As planned, the city of Kirkland formally opened the new Totem Lake Connector on Saturday. The swooping blue pedestrian and bicycle span rises high above the knotty intersection of Northeast 124th Street and 124th Avenue Northeast (aka Totem Lake Boulevard). On a Sunday morning visit, cyclists, walkers and runners were gawking at the new overlook to Totem Lake itself, to the north. And those using the gravel-surfaced Cross Kirkland Corridor — part of Eastrail — now have a smooth, scenic passage above the notoriously difficult intersection below.
