393 units planned in Rainier Valley

To the south, at 4238 Rainier Ave. S., the 263-unit Rainier & Genesee will be the first of two planned apartment buildings.

Once a Safeway, until it shuttered in the 1990s, then later dubbed Rainier Mall, a long-vacant building at 4208 Rainier Ave. S. succumbed to fire on Tuesday evening. Seattle Fire Department extinguished the blaze, reported no injuries and said the old building had partly collapsed.
