LIHI plans 160 units on surplus Sound Transit site in the U District

On a rental basis from landlord Sound Transit, the Low Income Housing Institute already operates a tiny house village at 1000 N.E. 45th St. in the University District. (Its lease has been extended at least once.) And this week LIHI announced plans to build a 12-story, 160-unit affordable housing project on the site. It had the winning response to Sound Transit's prior request for proposals, also sponsored by the city Office of Housing. The DJC first reported that RFP in October. Disposition plans have been brewing for several years.
