36 International District units set for vacant hulk

Past tenants in the now vacant building have included the Washington State Taishan Association.

The 104-year-old former Republic Hotel, at 416 Seventh Ave. S., has been vacant for years, and subject to regular vacant building violation notices from the city. About seven years ago, the longtime owners did gain approval from the International Special Review District Board to convert the building to apartments over retail. After slow progress, the city issued a construction permit early last year.
