REDMOND — Developed on about 24 acres in 1982, the Onyx apartments have 400 units at 4850 156th Ave. N.E. That's east of Interstate 405 and a cluster of Microsoft buildings alongside that freeway. The garden apartments are perhaps a 15-minute walk south to Redmond Technology Station. The property last sold for over $81 million in 2008 to a partnership of Kennedy Wilson and the LeFrak Organization.
In a plan that emerged last month with the city, MainStreet Property Group is proposing to subdivide out 15 acres, raze some of the apartments and develop 210 new townhouse units. The project would span about 400,000 square feet, with additional greenspace.
