Hearing on tax plan for housing Feb. 4

SEATTLE — The Seattle City Council is set to hold a public hearing Feb. 4 on a proposed sales and use tax deferral program for owners of some commercial properties seeking to convert their buildings into housing.

In December, the City Council voted to approve a resolution stating its intent to enact the program, with the goal of encouraging development of more market rate and affordable housing and employment opportunities in targeted urban areas including downtown.
