OLYMPIA — The Washington State Department of Commerce announced last week it would invest nearly $18 million in 17 projects aiming to create affordable homeownership opportunities for 168 low-income households. The funded projects consist of new construction, down payment assistance, and affordability subsidies, with awards ranging from $150,000 to $2 million.
Local projects among the awards: Habitat for Humanity of South King County will get a $1.9 million affordability subsidy grant for scattered site housing in the Rainier Valley, and a $2 million affordability subsidy grant toward its $26.2 million Miller Creek Community housing project in Burien; Homestead Community Land Trust will get a $1.6 million new construction grant toward its affordable housing development at Admiral United Church of Christ in West Seattle; and South Puget Sound Habitat for Humanity will get nearly $1.7 million new construction grant for phase 2 of its Longmire development in Yelm.
