The secret underside to the next Portage Bay Bridge

The new 520 underpass will be much wider and nicer for runners, walkers, stroller pushers and cyclists.

Driving the weary old Portage Bay Bridge now affords drivers some dramatic previews of the coming replacement, as Skanska hammers pilings into the shallow, muddy water below to create temporary work platforms (trestles) on both sides of the doomed 1960s span.
