Seattle, like other cities, has been discouraging new self-storage projects in recent years. On the suburban periphery, fine, but cities want more active job creation in core industrial areas — not a big stack of storage lockers overseen by a single security guard. For that reason, there was a big push to begin the permit process for several such projects from Seattle up to Shoreline.
