Commerce releases new study on AMI

OLYMPIA — The state Department of Commerce has released a study examining current methods for calculating income and evaluating how alternative methods would impact housing access and development.

The legislatively mandated study examines how income is currently measured for housing programs and evaluates whether alternative methods could better reflect local economic conditions and community needs. It assesses city-level data, renter-specific methodologies, and legislative district-based estimates as potential units for determining Area Median Income (AMI).
