A Dodge-Chrysler dealership has departed its longtime home at 120 116th Ave. N.E., joining the exodus of such car lots from Bellevue's old Auto Row.
The coming of light rail is transforming that area of Wilburton. A local family has long owned the 3.4-acre property, which looks to be on the market. (It's not publicly listed.)
Last week came the initial apartment plan from American Capital Group, which is also acting as its own architect. An 11-story, 450-unit building is described, with its total size not specified. The city's recent Wilburton upzone allows such building heights — and permits high rises if closer to Wilburton Station.
The building's irregular E-shape would contain two large interior courtyards facing west to 116th. Construction would be conventional wood framing over concrete.
On a sloping site, three levels of structured parking would have around 467 stalls. And some 7,700 square feet of retail is proposed on 116th. Units run from large studios, with 630 square feet, up to three-bedrooms with 1,387 square feet.
Tenants would have amenities including a gym, bike room and various lounges. A ninth-floor terrace, on the building's northwest corner, could have 4,338 square feet. That would connect with two large indoor lounge areas.
ACG has proposed other large apartment projects in that area. Even if it does not elect to pursue 120 116th, the site will almost certainly attract other interested developers.
The property is directly south of the PCC/Target/Virginia Mason building, and near Home Depot. Eastrail runs along its east property line. And while you can place it in Wilburton, it's actually closer to East Main Station, across the freeway via the new bridge. That's about 13 minutes by foot. (Wilburton Station is a longer shlep north.)
Eventually to be razed is an old building from 1974, which has been modified many times. Most of the property is covered in asphalt.
