City seeks contractor for waterfront's historic but ailing Bakun Building

The city hasn’t specified a start date for renovation of the little building, pictured this week.

The saga of the waterfront's Bakun Building, at 1426 Alaskan Way, goes back a century. It survived the construction and demolition of the viaduct, and has endured several earthquakes. And, despite a foundation of wooden pilings driven into soggy mud and fill, the empty former Frye meat-packing plant is still standing.
