With Eastgate office building razed, Concorde townhouses are underway

What once was.

Last winter, demolition of an old Class B office building began in Bellevue, not long after the $25 million land sale to townhouse developer Taylor Morrison. That was at 3245 158th Ave. S.E. in the Eastgate area, on the near north side of the freeway. That's a little east of the Michael's car dealerships and Dairy Queen, near the McDonald's.

Ascendent was the demo contractor. A DJC visit last weekend found the 4-acre site now mostly cleared but for a few trees. The three-story office building is gone. Concrete utility vaults are lying about the dirt. Taylor Morrison's crews have begun the utilities and groundwork, with lots of heavy equipment parked around the property.

The scene today.

And the future Concorde townhouses.

That's also now ringed with fencing and signage for what's newly dubbed the Concorde townhouses, with 83 homes for the sales market. Fall is the target date for first occupancy. Taylor Morrison also now has a marketing website up for prospective buyers to join the so-called VIP interest list.

Prices start at $1.2 million. Sizes are to run from 1,709 to 1,973 square feet. All 15 buildings are to be three-story structures with two-car garages. None have yet risen above grade.

Among the subcontractors are Nelson, groundwork; and PotelCo and Infrasource Services, utilities. Kennedy Lewis Investment Management is the financial partner to Taylor Morrison, which seems to be acting as its own architect. Freiheit Architecture was involved at an earlier stage of planning.

The city still calls the project Airfield, in reference to the small regional airport that operated there from 1945-1982. Initially owned and developed by the Nordhoff family, Bellevue Airfield was eventually sold off in chunks. Portions were variously used at different times as landfill and for new office buildings. Those included the now demolished former I-90 Bellevue I building, from 1985, later dubbed Airfield at Eastgate.

Thus, Concorde may be a nod to the famous and also now-extinct supersonic airliner of the same name.

And, related, the city is planning a new 27-acre park dubbed Airfield Park, about a half mile north of the Concorde site. That's still in environmental review. The city acquired the land circa 2002.
