The land sale was 13 years ago at 505 16th Ave., on the corner of Jefferson. The long-vacant 4,800-square-foot site is inset within the structured parking garage on the Swedish Cherry Hill campus, so it’s easy to miss or mistake it for being hospital-owned. But it’s not. Hotel plans emerged in 2020, and the master use permit came four years later.
Work on the six-story, 37-room project began this month under Synergy Construction. Axis Architecture designed the project, which totals about 23,056 square feet. There are some amenities, but no parking is included.
The Candlewood Suites brand is still attached to the endeavor. Its compact size could mean completion in 12 months or so. The construction is to be Type V-A wood over Type I-A concrete.
An Eastside investor owns the project. The team also includes Lanktree Land Surveying; JGM Landscape Architects; Lund Opsahl, structural engineer; DCI Engineers, civil; requested, Earth Solutions NW, geotechnical; Abossein Engineering, MEP; Gibson Traffic Consultants; and Ruffhouse Construction, shoring.
