Jack McCullough is, without doubt, the city's leading land-use attorney. And to further confirm that exalted status, the Downtown Seattle Association recently named him City Maker of the Year. The DSA's Jon Scholes said of the honor, “Jack is a masterful coalition builder. He can reach across different interest groups and different industries and bring people together around a shared goal.” The DSA cites McCullough's stewarding along the Gates Foundation campus, the waterfront's Great Wheel, the coming new Memorial Stadium, the just-opened Elliott Bay Connections and — a decade ago — the so-called 2015 “Grand Bargain” (aka the Housing Affordability and Livability Agenda, aka HALA). At the DSA's annual party last week, Greg Smith of Urban Visions called the nimble-minded, Harvard Law-trained attorney “the great, mighty Oz” of the Emerald City. And more, “Jack's had his fingerprints on pretty much everything you see in downtown.” True and true.
