The Real Estate Adviser: When it comes to housing, women call the shots

CHANTILLY, Va. — The view of retirement in the United States once focused on Dad and his golf clubs. What was this man who had spent years in the working world going to do with all of his spare time?

Builders and developers are finally starting to figure it out. They now know women make most of the decisions in the homebuying process. Since the 1960s, the percentage of men entering the workforce has diminished and the percentage of working women has increased. Today, women are independent, empowered, educated and employed — and often single.
